Advertisement Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Hi rcusick, Take a look here 35mm 1.4 Summilux pre-asph. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rcusick Posted February 2, 2021 Share #182 Posted February 2, 2021 (edited) Stephen - thinking about it... The summicron v4 has the closest signature to the summilux pre fle which you love... The summaron might also be a good candidate. Edited February 2, 2021 by rcusick
Popular Post rcusick Posted February 2, 2021 Popular Post Share #183 Posted February 2, 2021 (edited) Since there's been a lot of discussion around this lens with few images to bring discussion to life.... I thought I would start... I prefer the lens with black and white film where it's limitations are virtues - ie coma and low contrast. That said the lens has no distortion and is razer sharp. evikne Posted February 2, 2021 Share #191 Posted February 2, 2021 This shot was intended to be taken at f/2.0, but bokeh balls and EXIF says f/1.4. I am unsure what is correct. Welcome, dear visitor! Ray Vonn Posted February 2, 2021 Share #193 Posted February 2, 2021 Took me the best part of a year to understand my cron iv. These aren’t normal lenses.
Slender Posted February 2, 2021 Share #194 Posted February 2, 2021 The pre-asph has more character to me: softer on the edges, more fall, off compared to asph.... a very sweet lens, a superb compact construction. I love it very dearly but your 35 1.4 silver pre asph is a much better lens and draws even nicer IMHO.
Wonzo Posted February 2, 2021 Share #195 Posted February 2, 2021 vor 7 Stunden schrieb rcusick: I'm debating whether to sell the cron v4... Its just I've gotten a few striking photos from it... Never sell this lens! I have once made this mistake and traded a black version for the Summilux FLE, only because of sharpness. The Summicron was so small and light, fitted into every pocket. Just a lovely lens with wonderful colors. I bought it back, a beautiful silver version with the only downside, that itˋs much heavier than the black one.
shirubadanieru Posted February 2, 2021 Share #196 Posted February 2, 2021 I’ve had all Summicrons and all Summiluxes I think the only 35mm I have not tried is the elmar f3.5 & the summarit 2.5/2.4 & lux AA. If I rank them in terms of my own, very personal preference it would be: 1) cron 8 elements / lux steel rim 2) lux pre-asph (esp. infinity lock or titanium) 3) cron V4 (silver version) 4) summaron f2.8 5) Lux FLE ASPH 6) summaron f3.5 7) cron v2/v3 8 ) Cron ASPH A: Built Quality - Best built quality / best feel when using: Steel Rim —> Cron V4 Silver version —> Cron 8e / Summaron f2.8 & f3.5 —> all the rest - Worst built quality / worst feel when using: Cron V4 in blackB: Rendering - Best wide open look (vintage): Steel Rim —> Pre-asph Lux —> 8 elements —> cron V4 —> all the rest - Best one lens kit (modern & good performance across all apertures): Lux FLE / Cron ASPH —> summaron f2.8 - Best 2 in 1 lens: Steel Rim / Pre-asph Lux / 8 elements (tied) - Worst rendering (ie boring): Cron ASPH C : Size / Weight - easy, all pre-ASPH lens are tied the worst being Lux FLE ASPH which to me is just too big / heavy for a 35mm (think about this; the lux is only 80g lighter than the new nocti f1.2) Lastly, if I had to compare the Steel Rim or Lux pre-asph I would say that they are closer in rendering to the cron 8e until f2.8, and closer in rendering to the Cron V4 from f2.8 and above. The V4, although it has a much better rendering than the Cron ASPH, it is way more modern than the 8e or lux pre-asph / steel rim wide open. It does not glow nearly as much as the cron 8e or the lux. But construction & usage wise, I much prefer the pre-asph / steel rim / 8e / summaron to the Cron V4. That being said, the V4 in silver is beautifully made and a joy to use. Hope this helps, and again my opinion only, not trying to say this is right for anyone else. 2
M9reno Posted February 2, 2021 Share #197 Posted February 2, 2021 This is probably my best shot using the 35 Summilux v. 1 (M3 version with goggles), using the insanely-priced hood by the way. Steven my guess is that your copy might need some service - some of that flare does not, to my eye, look at all familiar from experience. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/205842-i-like-filmopen-thread/?do=findComment&comment=3733737

M9reno Posted February 2, 2021 Share #199 Posted February 2, 2021 3 minutes ago, Steven said: Excellent shot. Regarding the flare, I need to admit I was using it without the OLLUX. Could it have been a very worsening factor ? It’s possible - quite a big front element with not much in front of it. Even a little haze from evaporated lubricants, etc., assuming your lens has not been serviced in a while, and away you go into Flare Paradise. I am not as technical as many others, but I feel that the Summilux pre-ASPH has a bit more character, a "richer" rendering than the Summicron v4 at all these apertures. But the difference isn't very noticeable (and in my case maybe mostly based on emotions).
