An annual affair, this year's gathering of WW II aircraft was the biggest yet - some wonderful old planes, incredible sounds and vivid memory flashbacks to spring of 1944 in Vienna, when some of these things were buzzing around overhead while the B-17s were doing their daily bombing runs.

#5 - first one of these I've ever seen in the metal - a recently & expertly restored Grumman F7F Tigercat, a little late for  WW II, but used extensively in Korea..................what a magnificent airplane.

Thanks for looking,

Gonna' take a stab at this, let me know how close I am:

1. Some variant of SBD Dauntless, though the cockpit cover and USAF emblem are making me scratch my head.

2. Spitfire

3. B18

4. Interior of the Spitfire

5. Tigercat (which you already identified, of course)

Sorry Allan, never intended this post to become the aviation version of 'name that car' - but since you asked, here's what's shown:

#1 - Newly restored Republic P-47 D 'Thunderbolt - largest, heaviest single engined fighter / fighter bomber used by US in WW II.

#2 - a pair of Curtis P-40 'Warhawks' in early 1940s North Africa livery, as used by British forces against Rommel - also made famous in China by US manned 'Flying Tigers' squadron. The blue Navy plane with folded wings in the background is a Grumman  TBF "Avenger" torpedo bomber, and was sed in filming "Midway".

#3 - North American B-25 'Mitchell' bomber - most famous for being used in the surprise 'Doolittle ' raid on Tokyo - this particular airplane was used in the the '70 film "Catch 22".

#4 - Rear cockpit of a North American T-6 "Texan" advanced trainer.

#5 - another image of the Tigercat, preparing for take-off.

Hope this helps,

JZG
