PhotoArchival Posted July 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I turned on my CM earlier today, and to my frustrating surprise... The lens will not POP out. It seems the lens cover will not fully go inside the camera (a tiny piece is showing), causing the lens to not come out. Any one else have this problem?????????? Or am I alone. It is not even a year old!!!!!! Any clues? At least the warranty will cover the fixing Away to N.J. Amado

gylee Posted July 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2007 Is it possible that the battery is flat?
Michiel Fokkema Posted July 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2007 Hi, My Minilux had this problem. it was solved by Leica in solms. Well they needn't two tries before they got it right. Cheers, Michiel Fokkema
marcoparis Posted July 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 28, 2007 I truly hope your problem will be solved, since Leica do NOT repair CM anymore (if the defectuous bits are missing)… For the best they could replace it, for the worse, buy another one! PhotoArchival Posted July 29, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted July 29, 2007 I sent it to N.J. for repair under warranty.... They told me since it is discontinued they are not repairing it anymore!!!!! I don't think it has been discontinued that long ago!? I remember seeing it on their web-site few months back. I was so pissed! I have been talkin to Brenda and they offered me to upgrade to the C-lux for an additional $399!!! I do not consider that an 'upgrade', and I also told them I got the CM because I wanted to shoot film. And there was no way I was gonna pay extra for a P&S digital camera unless it had the 40mm Summarit on it. They also offered me a cm-zoom......but what if that breaks then what???? I asked for a new one, but they have no more CM's laying around to give me. What a bummer!!! They could have, at the very least, serviced it till the warranty runs out!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucklik Posted July 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2007 I have a CM Zoom and it is for the 4th time at Leica. I bought it as a present for my wife two years ago. While most people are very pleased with there CM's there seems to be problems. The CM zoom is allready discontinued for a long time, I didn't know the CM was discontinued too. I've checked the website and there are no more compact film carmeras anymore. When you want to shoot film, and they cannot replace it with the same CM, ask for a M or R, rgs Luc
andybarton Posted July 29, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) If it's still under warranty, then they have to do something for you. Either repair it or replace it. At least, if that's not the case, then the warranty isn't worth anything. Is there a "Sales of Goods Act" or similar in the US (or your state, if it's not a federal law)? Here in the UK, we have a law which states that goods must be of "merchantable quality". If the product you bought fails during it's warranty period, and the manufacturer cannot repair or replace it, the dealer that sold it to you would be outside the law (it's the dealer with whom you have the contract, not the manufacturer). Have you approached the dealer themselves, or just dealt with Leica US? If they have nothing to replace it with, like-for-like, then, IMHO, they ought to offer you the nearest equivalent, which would be an M7 with a 35 lens. I think the Minilux was made by Minolta, and one can see why they might not be repairable, but the CM was, IIRC, a Leica product.
stunsworth Posted July 29, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 29, 2007 Andy, it was Panasonic that made the Minilux.
andybarton Posted July 29, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 29, 2007 Well, there we are then. BTW, it's a good call about the flat battery. My CM was playing up a year or so ago, and even after installing a fresh battery, it still wouldn't open properly. A second fresh one sorted the problem and it's been fine ever since. gberger Posted July 29, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 29, 2007 Agree with Andy on the battery issue. We use Duracells, and, every now and then, a poor 9 volt or a poor photo battery slips through.
Overgaard Posted July 29, 2007 Share #11 Posted July 29, 2007 There is no doubt they will have to repair or replace it. Or simply money back. What worries me more is that the CM is under warranty but can't be repaired. That means that a camera in the expensive end suddenly is worthless as second-hand when the warranty has run out (apparently also before it runs out ;-) ). When I saw the first two CMs at my dealer, when it was released, the screws in the bottom of them both was halfway in, sticking 2-3 mm out. So I said I would wait a bit to get one and stick with my two Minilux'. I hope that means they will do a digital with the 40mm. Perhaps...
PhotoArchival Posted August 3, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted August 3, 2007 Thank you ALL for your time and concerns! Looks like I will be getting a full refund! Which is O.K. by me!!! I sure hope they continue to service the M' line cam's & lenses. I remember reading somewhere that they service parts and labor for 30-50 years???? From when you bought camera???? Hope it's true, very comforting. I can see the MP outfit getting a lot of work w/o the CM! I still have a soft spot for the CM, so it will be missed!!!! Maybe one day I will chance along another cognac leatherette CM (gently used/cheap) somewhere... The following shot was reflection off my mother-in-laws minivan. Building is my wife and I first condo (garden unit) the day we moved it! One of our few photo's together ;( Good luck to all who still have theirs kicking! And a lifetime of clicking!!! kdemas Posted August 4, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 4, 2007 I think Leica is in some trouble on this one with US law. Beyond that, however, I am really surprised at this tack from a company that has prided itself on taking care of it's customers. I happen to have a CM as a walkaround film camera and I frankly have never heard of a company pilling this immediately after discontinuation. When you charge a premium price for an item the service should follow. Look, I have an M8, an M7 and 2 M5's so I really like Leica obviously but this policy is no way to treat customers. Very weak.
