My Digilux 2 arrived at my home yesterday. I sent it in (to NJ) for the CCD replacement about 3 months ago, so perhaps their shipment of replacement CCDs is in. So far, everything seems to be working fine.

I never did get the Digilux 3 replacement offer (I was tempted to accept it after reading about it on this forum).

Did you receive an additional complimentary battery by chance? When I sent my Digilux 2 in for sensor replacement, I received one when the camera was returned. I thought that was a nice gesture on Leica's part.

No, I didn't get the battery. I wouldn't turn it down if they wanted to send me one!

What happens when the sensor goes bad. As of today,my D2 images have a pink cast over the entire image and are quite "pasty" looking. Also, where do I send it.

Thanks

Widespread CCD problems in consumer imaging products

Go here if you want to read about the CCD sensor problems and the cameras that are affected.

Here's a very interesting excerpt from the linked article that might provide a temporary fix: yep, the old 'fix-the-tv' method. That's what I call proper maintenance.:D

"Finally, an email from reader Paul Taylor pointed us toward another possibility. We've since heard from several readers that they were able to get failing cameras to work again for short periods, either by bumping or flexing the camera chassis. This is obviously something we do not recommend trying, as it could damage other components in your camera and lead to expensive repair bills. Still, given that little if any force could be transferred through the sensor package by these methods, it does hint at another problem coming into play in at least some cameras. Paul theorized that the zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors and flex cables inside the camera might not be providing sufficiently good contact, and mechanical action on the camera body could move the cables inside the connectors enough to temporarily improve the situation."

Have any long term D2 owners not had to have had the sensor replaced? I bought one recently, prior to finding this board, and am now wondering if mine is a time bomb and that this is inevitably going to happen. FWIW, I have not had problems with it yet.

I bought mine about one month after they were first available, and have not had any problems.

I got my D2 in July 2005. No problems at all.

However it feels like living with a time-bomb.

It would be nice if Leica could make public a list of the serial-numbers with D2's with " the faulty sensors". Panasonic did this for the LC1.

regards, Salsa
