Advertisement Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Hi a.noctilux, Take a look here Black vs Silver Resale value . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
derleicaman Posted August 3, 2018 Share #22 Posted August 3, 2018 Interesting topic. When we were allocating the numbers for how many of each finish were to be made of the LHSA APO 50 ASPH lenses. We decided to do a 300 black and 200 silver chrome split, as black paint is more popular for these special edition lenses. Both are in a brass mount, so they are considerably heavier than the the alloy mounts of the regular version.

Herr Barnack Posted August 4, 2018 Share #24 Posted August 4, 2018 Buy what you want. Where silver is available, it looks great with a silver body. The best advice is never to sell any lens. If you do the difference would be negligible. What pedaes said.
cp995 Posted August 4, 2018 Share #25 Posted August 4, 2018 well, there are definitely regional differences. When in Germany 80% are bought in black (I do not know the real number) then it is more difficult to sell silver ones. Possible, yes! But taste changes from time to time and if silver bodies are more requested, it'll become a vendor market.
Paulus Posted August 5, 2018 Share #26 Posted August 5, 2018 (edited) I would dearly like to have your citations supporting that assertion. Thank you. Recently I was tempted to buy a titanium body Summilux 35mm for a reasonable price, then proper sense informed me that light passing through the glass could care less for its cladding. If the titanium body was cheaper, it would be no bad decision. Still it's more heavy. Although Erwin Puits still states that the chrome lenses especially the Elmarit-M 24/2.2.8 asph are more solid in construction. Maybe because of the brass used? On the other hand, if it was a real titanium body instead of brass or aluminium, I would be tempted. About the OP answer. There are lenses , like the 24/2,8 ASPH that are more sought than the black versions. If you can buy such a one for a reasonable price, if you need the money, one could sell it for more. IMHO. The real value of the lens is a combination of how it looks and how rare it is. Edited August 5, 2018 by Paulus
Paulus Posted August 5, 2018 Share #27 Posted August 5, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've always leaned towards black lenses. But I recently had a Silver-Q and really enjoyed the sliver lens. I now have an M10-Silver and was curious what the groups thoughts were on resale value of silver lenses. Any thoughts on this? I know its personal preference, and ultimately I'll have to decide on my own...just wanted to get a consensus. thanks. The thing about resale is IMHO : I always lose money in the process. It has stopped since I only buy lenses but do not sell them anymore.
