LeicaR10 Posted July 28, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2018 (edited) Waynexu1998, The short answer is No. The best way to ship to the USA is via either FEDEX or UPS. Clearly you must state on the Customs Declaration the contents of the box; camera, lens, value etc. I always write the item is broken and going for repair. You can also call Leica NJ and ask for the exact wording they suggest for the declaration. The other option is to simply take your camera/lens to the camera dealer and have them ship for you. They certainly know how to ship the item the best way as well. If the item is under warranty, definitely call Leica and they will arrange pickup/shipping, etc. Then all you have to do is pack the item well and put a letter with your details and issue with the item in the box. If under warranty, include a copy of your receipt. At least that is how I have done repairs with Leica NJ or Leica Australia in the past both in Las Vegas and Gold Coast, Australia. Last, if the repair is a camera, be sure to remove the battery and keep it with you. Hope this helps. r/ Mark Edited July 28, 2018 by LeicaR10
Ko.Fe. Posted July 28, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 28, 2018 If it is in Toronto area you could pay Downtown Camera and they will send, receive it. My M-E went this way to and from NJ this year.
AandW Posted July 28, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 28, 2018 Another benefit of using a Camera Dealer like Downtown is shipping insurance. To ship as an individual from Canada to the U.S. with FedEx or UPS can be very expensive if you insure the shipment of a M camera and perhaps a few lenses.
M11 for me Posted July 28, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2018 Make sure that the immigration of your camera into the US is according to the US law. Otherwise they will separate the lens from the body. If you are lucky they are willing to bring the 2 back together after a few months and after intervening in Washington. Better to have personal insurance on your gear that covers circumstances outside the warranty... loss, theft, damage, etc. I never buy separate shipping insurance. Same thing when I rent a car, where personal insurance negates need for additional rental insurance. But having a reputable dealer take care of everything can save hassle, if not time.
