They use a dongle for security, and the dongle must be used for installation as well as all operation of the software. Do NOT lose this dongle or you will have to buy another copy of the sw.

Did I convey how much a like this sw?

Regards,

I have never bought, and never will buy, any software that needs a dongle connected to the system to be able to function. No matter how good any piece of software may be it just goes against my nature to use a dongle. Had the same thing happen with a CAD program which is something I use every day at my work. Once I found out it needed a dongle I said NO THANK YOU.

Funny how Adobe, MS, Autodesk and a host of other large and small software writers/companies don't fell the need to have you connect a dongle to your computer to make the software work.

I would say NO to them also if they did.

But this company that makes software to print images with feels the need to have you use a dongle to use there software is the same as calling me a thief. Like I said No Thanks.

I don't own a 2400 but did looked hard at them when I was in the market for a new printer about 6 months ago. I chose a HP B9180 over the Epson for verious reasons. I am very happy with all the prints I get from the HP if I do my job preparing the image for printing.

YMMV.

Ed,

Are you getting a very faint pinkish tinge (only seems visible in certain lights) on B&W prints with the HP B9180. I am mainly printing from PSE4 for Mac and using the Ilford icc profiles and specific printer set up instructions for the B9180 from Ilford. I have started using deliberate tints such as cyanotype or sepia to get round this.

The only Ilford paper I have tried is the gallery smooth perl and I have had NO luck with it. Color or B&W look BAD. So I have switched to Epson Matte, HP gloss or redriver papers.

Love the Ilford film but don't like the papers to much.

Haven't notice any pinkish tinge on any of my prints but I do see some bronzing when printing B&W on gloss papers, not much when printing on matte or satin RR.

Ed,

Did you use Ilford's own icc profile and their printer set up instructions with Gallery Smooth Pearl? I am getting the best results with the B9180 on this paper compared with any other paper HP, Hannemuhle, Permajet Fine Art, etc. I have done a bit of an internet search and faint colour tints with this printer on B&W seem to be a little bit of an issue. Apparently it is fine if you use their own supplied RIP engine but that is a CS2 plug in only. I am currently PSE4 and going to CS3, neither of which support the RIP engine.

According to Jeff Schewe (Photoshop guru and LR alpha tester/development partner) the current implementation of color management in LR is not "complete." One would have to ask Jeff exactly what that means, but many folks are not getting consistent results printing from LR, even using the settings you describe.

Glad to hear it's working to your satisfaction though!

I agree, color management in LR does not work properly with some custom profiles (eg. Create-icc QTR profiles) and because of the way it uses colorsync it can double profile and produce flat, muddy looking prints. I don;t know why they went off on this weird route for color management in LR when they could have just implemented the excellent CS3 algorithms.

No Wilson I have not tried with the setup instructions, didn't know there were any. Could you point me to them? Thanks, I'll give it another try.
