Does anyone know the approximate cost and current turnaround time is for a Leica M lens?

The focussing barrel on my 35mm ASPH Summicron is getting a little 'sticky' and would probably benefit from a little lubrication. I bought the lens used around 2000 and it's never been serviced, at least while I've had it.

I would say: ask Andrea ;)

I should be meeting her alter ego in Manchester in a week or so. If I do I'll ask her/him <grin>.

I was just trying to get a ball park figure. The stickiness isn't so bad that I can't use the lens, but I'd like to know how long I'd be without it too.

Leica NJ couldn’t fix the sticky focus on my 50 Summilux ASPH, so I sent it to DAG and he had it back to me in a week, working perfectly, for $90 including shipping. He used his supply of the old Leitz grease. Hopefully Leica Wetzlar has better techs and/or materials.

I’m aware, Steve, which is why I mentioned Wetzlar. But also noting that a third party specialist (like Will van Manen in your case?) can often be cheaper and just as effective, if not more.

DAG communicates well. Asked him questions on two lenses I bought from Igor and he was quite informative and helpful. The 75 summilux he CLA’d is the best lens I’ve ever owned.

I’d send it to him.

I have never been clear on this point, so I'll ask - is having a lens CLA'ed a "if it's not broken, don't fix it" proposition?

Does a lens need to have a CLA every (for example) 7 years, or do you just continue to use it as long as it is working properly?
