andybarton Posted July 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have no idea what happened to this thread before, but here is the response I have from Nikon UK, with regards to my complaint at paying £250 to have a 2 year old Coolscan V repaired. I had suggested that Nikon products are not as good as they were, if my father's experience with his SLRs from the 70s was anything to go by... "Dear Andy, Firstly, let me start by apologising for the inconvience you have experienced while using our Nikon Coolscan V. I would like to confirm our confidence in the design and build quality of the Nikon COOLSCAN V, and assure you that your experience, albeit unfortunate is certainly rare. I would point out however, that a comparison between and old film SLR, and a newer electronic product like the Coolscan V is unfair, and certainly not comparing like with like. The Coolscan V is a much more sophisticated and complex device than a Film SLR, and such is unfortunately more prone to failure. However, if you wish to make a formal complaint, then I can provide you with the means to do so. You will need to send a letter to the following address" So, there you have it. Expect new, expensive stuff to break. And they don't care.
Advertisement Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Nikon Coolscan V - if you are offered an extended warranty - TAKE IT!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mark Antony Posted July 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2007 That's not a very good answer from the Nikon guy. By that metric the D200 is a lot more complicated than my F2 so is prone to failure, seems like an idea to hang on to simple functional things then if you want reliability? mgcd Posted July 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2007 What a complete load of rubbish! What he did not want to say was that this is an entry level product and as such is not subjected to the same rigourous reliability testing as our higher end products. There you have it, we want to spend more money! ...or something along those lines... rather frustrating. Cheers,
