Quite an interesting challenge for "Abstract". I definitely see why you submitted it here, I had to fight with myself a bit, would like to see the same photo with the tree in focus and the background not, with the background in focus but the tree much more out of focus... I guess, in other words, I wonder if the "abstract" could be strengthened into a stronger duality. But I like the wildness of the photo, with the unruly limbs.

It's a pity that this thread is now being compromised by totally non abstract images. Abstract is something different as special compositions (which can have a right on their own btw).

Agreed 👏. When you say "totally non abstract images ..." then I feel addressed too. Could you guess what #908 might be? 😉

I personally don't mind a photo that is in some ways "totally non abstract" but that has an incredibly strong abstract feeling.  For me, a perfect blend between the two is the most interesting, where my mind, as the viewer, can move back and forth between abstract and realistic. If you think about it, as you get closer and closer to a realistic painting or photo, it becomes more and more abstract. So there is ALWAYS abstract in realistic, that's what "composition" is all about. Therefore I think realistic images are perfectly suitable, as long as the composition is VERY compelling, strong, and pulls you out of the real into that abstract.

I think Michi D's #906, of the rooftops, achieved that. Totally realistic, totally abstract. Up to the viewer to see it either way. And the abstract was strongly compelling. And there weren't any visual breaks in the abstract qualities.

IMO

I did not find this one not belonging in this thread. Because I'm in Valencia now I immediately searched in my head if this could be part of Calatrava's masterpiece there. But I could not find where that could be then.
