Advertisement Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Hi Guest stnami, Take a look here the D2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dhsimmonds Posted July 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2007 Imants - great images under difficult lighting. Just think how many lens changes would have been necessary with an M8!! Then how many shots would have been missed whilst changing lenses! As far as the subjects are concerned, they might just keep you locked up for a bit longer! Yep, the D2 and LC1 are no more..........great shame as I feel that there could be so much more development potential out of this concept.
Guest Metroman Posted July 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2007 Imants: cracking images. They will have to prise my D2 from my cold dead hands and even then I intend taking it to hell with me - along with the MP and XA of course
salsa Posted July 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 9, 2007 With all the shortcomings.....what a camera (and what a photographer). Excellent! Regards, Salsa
ho_co Posted July 9, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2007 The music also nicely complements the slide show. Really good job, Imants! Where was this festival held? And why do you say there isn't likely to be another like it? --HC

Guest stnami Posted July 9, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2007 Thanks Where was this festival held? Sydney Annually Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras And why do you say there isn't likely to be another like it?. referring to the camera What I would like to point out is that when Leica has the right assistance it produces a damn good camera. Sure the sensor went, but remember this is a non developing project by PanaLeica. The lens was made for the camera not the camera for a bunch of lenses with an unknown reaction to sensor. It's a great portrait camera, beyond that it can struggle though it also excells in other types of work as well. I doubt that the M8 and it's problems would have worked as well and hard , been the best AU$1500 I sever spent.......... more than food on a table it built the kitchen. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1026/764910194_137a6396f4.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1337/764910220_0dfa0ecf28.jpg close to the best B&W digtal around.....people ... Thanks for posting the additional links. Very nice work in all cases. I agree about the D2 completely. Pretty good design and execution and a workhorse as well. Pity it wasn't developed further. But I think that's going to start happening more and more as Leica tries to play with the big boys. We have the right to hope that every once in a while they'll hit the ball out of the park as they did with this one. (Sorry for the baseball term; just sounds better than 'they'll luck into a winner.' ) --HC

Guest stnami Posted July 10, 2007 Share #11 Posted July 10, 2007 Trouble is if Leica who are still playing "backyard cricket", it's six and out and you have to get the ball
Riley Posted July 10, 2007 Share #12 Posted July 10, 2007 seems such a pitty to ditch the development work that went into it doesnt it however it seems the 2/3" sensors are in very short supply the closest remaining is Fuji's 1/17" sensor from the F30 the tighter crop would mean the loss of the 28mm EFL, but it would be iso400-800 capable
Guest stnami Posted July 10, 2007 Share #13 Posted July 10, 2007 I am quite happy with the camera as is with it's deep DOF, just may need a new one sometime, had a spare LC1 but gave it away to someone who wanted it more than me..........no use speculating and losing the 28 would have been a shocker
dhsimmonds Posted July 10, 2007 Share #14 Posted July 10, 2007 No doubt about it, the D2 is another Leica "classic" camera and with it Panasonic will also have their very first "classic" with the LC1.

elansprint72 Posted July 11, 2007 Share #17 Posted July 11, 2007 mantis, Your "people" set really is the cat's pyjamas. I'm totally in agreement about the D2, there will ever be another.... unless some enterprising folks can update the sensor and electronics. I'm sort of thinking about grabbing an hardly-used one off e-Bay to keep in a box for when mine wears out. If only they could make it go to 24mm too.... Guest stnami Posted July 11, 2007 Share #18 Posted July 11, 2007 Pete I think Riley converted one to 24 or 21mm for interior work, I saw it somewhere on the LUF
Riley Posted July 12, 2007 Share #19 Posted July 12, 2007 Pete I think Riley converted one to 24 or 21mm for interior work, I saw it somewhere on the LUF no na no, i used the Panasonic wide converter lens (which is massive) for 22mm
Annie135 Posted July 12, 2007 Share #20 Posted July 12, 2007 Iagree that the D2 is a classic. I just hope that the new sensor will give it a reasonable 'life expectancy' The great thing is the simplicity,it just seems to deliver the goods on demand. I have a very extensive D200 outfit.........I don't quite no why. I have toyed with the thought of getting the D3 but don't see the advantage except perhaps for the viwfinder. The snap of the pooch was shot with the camera resting on the arm of the settee, about 1/8th at f5.6 auto everything else lens at 90mm. Tthe delayed action was used whilst I returned the compliment and pulled faces back at Wesson. Welcome, dear visitor!
