satijntje Posted June 20, 2018 Share #21 Posted June 20, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) For 5000€ you will get a NEW Hasselblad X1D MF body that is claimed to be water resistant. I would never spent even one thousand $ for such a repair.

tritentrue Posted June 20, 2018 Share #22 Posted June 20, 2018 Hi all, just received a repair cost for my Leica S006 at $5000. would you guys pay for it or just get a Sony A7RIII? it saddens me and i feel cheated on leica products. See attached pdf and my reply to Leica.Screen Shot 2018-06-19 at 5.09.34 PM.pngScreen Shot 2018-06-19 at 5.04.24 PM.png From the currency type it looks as though you are dealing with Leica Asia Pacific. I have had more than one bad experience with them, the most recent of which was their initial reluctance to repair my 5-month-old TL2 under warranty. LCAP actually went to the trouble of sending to Wetzlar what appeared to be trumped-up photos of my supposed "neglectful use" of the camera. I appealed to Wetzlar and most of the issue was resolved without charge. The other issue was faulty autofocus with the 55-135mm lens (which focused accurately on my T), which they claimed to be performing acceptably. It may be worth your time to send an email to the complaints department in Wetzlar. In spite of being given fishy "information" from LCAP, they made sure the repair was done without charge, which is a big reason for my continuing to be a Leica customer. chuanweeyeo Posted June 20, 2018 Author Share #23 Posted June 20, 2018 This may not apply to the original poster, but $5,000 of water damage may be covered by your household insurance policy. I have my home insurance, probably will look into it.

chuanweeyeo Posted June 20, 2018 Author Share #26 Posted June 20, 2018 I had an SL with me which i purchase in Hong Kong during my last trip. Several thoughts here: 1- too expensive, you could pick up a used body cheaper, 2- water damage could create issues further down the road from parts showing no ill effect at present , 3- SL body with adapter takes all S lenses, if the 24mp 24x36 sensor is sufficient for your use, in addition the SL body accepts Canon, Nikon, Leica-R and Leica-M lenses, 4- Hasselblad X1D :-) My experience with Leica repair has always been positive when calling repair and talking to them directly. Good luck!

albertknappmd Posted June 20, 2018 Share #31 Posted June 20, 2018 I was in a Zodiac of the antarctic peninsula and was flooded by giant but sequential waves. We were all drenched.. The camera was submerged and died one me. I went back to the ship and dried it out that night. Miraculously, the camera was working the next morning but certain parts such as autofocus and on/off were totally out. I used it in manual mode and pictures were phenomenal. I figured that the camera is built like a boat and that the salt water destroyed several compartments but not all of them. VACATION SAVED. My second 007 was hit at the same time but not as bad and had no serious damage. It also went back to Leica and they confirmed that wall was well. I use CHUBB for household with an itemized rider for all camera equipment. They are fabulous. Albert

albertknappmd Posted June 21, 2018 Share #34 Posted June 21, 2018 CHUBB and AIG are both excellent companies... You may pay a higher premium but... they truly deliver... Albert
Jeff S Posted June 21, 2018 Share #35 Posted June 21, 2018 (edited) CHUBB and AIG are both excellent companies... You may pay a higher premium but... they truly deliver... Albert Indeed. FWIW, AIG is capitalized as an acronym. The Chubb logo is capitalized, but it’s derived from the Chubb family founding name, and is written as such through their general communications.
