Our tour guide said that the starboard shop would have been used by Churchill as his office during wartime passages.

Considering the slight differences between British and American English, I deduce that the "Restroom" sign came not originally with the ship.

As a small side detail, for the handrails and door knobs, no ordinary brass was used but white bakelite, which was meant to give a warm feeling at touch.

 

Since ship's decks are curved upwards to give the hull more stability, this curvature extends to the cabins, as can be seen here.
