oka Posted July 16, 2018 Share #41 Posted July 16, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm new on Leica and have experienced around 6 months. Most of the Leica gear I have bought has problems. Two M10, one has sensor issue (black horizontal lines in high iso when it warms up using LV / EVF) and have frozen few times in 3 months. Second one back focuses and froze 4 times in one day during a wedding gig (just red light is on and needs to take battery off). APO50: loose aperture ring Summilux 28: on some light conditions it has severe come / halo on highlights and some flaring (candle lights). Also it "creaks" when lifted up and down from the hood (moves little bit around the aperture ring which doesn't happen on another lenses). Summilux 21: loose hood (it rotates out of position very easily and compared to Summilux 28 difference is big) and aperture ring "rattles" when rotated. Summicron 90: dust magnet, I have personally never seen a lens which is so dusty inside the lens in such short time. M10 seems to have lot of issues, return rate is double digit which is absolutely disaster. Maybe bad batch, but it's not acceptable. I hope all of issues are sorted out in Wetzlar. Don't get me wrong, I just love Leica. The look of the pictures and RF experience has changed my way how I photograph. Really want to ditch my Canon gear and move to Leica. Repairs took about 2 months (time when i sent and receive the items, so actual repairs did not take that long). M10 with horizontal black line problem: Source of the problem could not be found and they replaced the whole circuit board. M10 with freezing issues: EVF lockup will be fixed in next firmware! So this is known issue but not publicly stated by Leica. Lux21: Loose hood was fixed Lux28: Internal lens assembly adjusted Apo50: Loose aperture ring fixed Apo90: Lens was cleaned (lot of dust inside) All bodies and lenses were calibrated and focusing is spot on all lenses and bodies. First, I'm glad on quality of service BUT I'm not happy with the quality control. With these prices you expect that all devices are at least calibrated correctly. Maybe assembly line has not equally strict tolerances than the service line? I have also Cron35 black chrome and Noct50 0.95 which are my ONLY lens which are working as it expected. Lux75 which was bought lately goes to the calibration, even that is was serviced just 1-2 years ago (very badly backfocusing)...

AdamSinger Posted July 16, 2018 Share #42 Posted July 16, 2018 (edited) ALberto Hi I am having the same problem with my M10, swapped cards and batteries, camera has now gone back to Leica. Disappointing, and my Daughter's wedding looms hope it gets back in time. Edited July 16, 2018 by AdamSinger
TG14 Posted July 17, 2018 Share #43 Posted July 17, 2018 While a faulty camera may not be the norm, this is total hyperbole. Leica doesn't manufacture near enough cameras to even talk about lottery odds. I don't know the rates, but my guess is that they crank out multiple faulty bodies per 100 manufactured. I would love to know their QC goals. Per 1000 seems too generous given that I personally know people (not the on the forums) who have had multiple issues, and that I personally have had extensive issues with both my M8 and M10. I've won the lottery two out of two possible times - this isn't my "luck" normally and hasn't been with any other manufacturer. This is all speculation and anecdotal on my part of course, but Leica simply don't manufacture enough units for all of these stories to be statistically insignificant. Disappointing to hear such stories. I guess it is easier said than done to say "just fix it" to Leica. Leica prob has to balance between producing faster vs producing perfect, but i would have thought that at some point, QC becomes an issue and deterant for new buyers. Speed of hardware service is not amazing quick too, so the remedy of sending it in is not ideal.
albertknappmd Posted July 18, 2018 Share #44 Posted July 18, 2018 Spice- Are you still following this thread? If so, just send the camera and lens back and they will fix or replace. These things happen and Leica is very good at correcting the issue. Albert
