john_f Posted August 6, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) FYI I just learned of a new book on the life of Ernst Leitz II. There are so many books on the Leica, but here is finally a book on the life of the man behind the camera. The book was published by Heel Verlag GmbH, Königswinter on June 15th, which was the 50th anniversary of the death of Ernst Leitz II. AFAIK, the book is currently only available in German. If someone can find an English version, please do let us know. According to Frank Dabba Smith ("The Leitz Freedom Train"), "It is edited by his grandson Knut Kuehn-Leitz and is called 'Ernst Leitz Wegbereiter der Leica' [iSBN: 3898805514]. It is a beautiful cloth bound book filled with photos, some never published. The twin emphases are ELII's business skills and his humanitarianism. I have an essay in this book about some of the families that were helped during the nightmare years. You can order it from the publisher's website www.heel-verlag.de". If you're interested, you can get more detailed info at this link: Ernst Leitz - Wegbereiter der Leica - HEEL VERLAG GmbH Also see: Amazon.de: Ernst Leitz-Pionier der Leica. Ein vorbildlicher Unternehmer und mutiger Demokrat: Bücher: Knut Kühn-Leitz,Knut Kühn- Leitz (Euro 35) Best regards, John F.

john_f Posted August 6, 2006 Author Share #2 Posted August 6, 2006 I was just reading Andy Barton's warning about "for sale" posts and thought it appropriate to add the following: For the record, I have nothing to do whatsoever with this book's publisher, author, collaborator(s) and resellers. I am not related to any of them, nor am I making one red cent (or euro) from this book. My aim was simply to provide information. IMHO, whether or not you want to get this book is up to you. If it is indeed against forum rules to post news about new books or other [non Leica Camera] photo related items that might be of interest to Leica users - and which can only be aquired for money, I offer all of you my most sincere apologies and promise to refrain from posting such things in the future in this forum. Thank you, John F.

There are many who just wait for your most informative and thoughtful entries here. >No for sale< here means do not sell LEICAS products via this site. Since you are only pointing at an important publication and you are not even selling it youself you are safe. john_f Posted August 8, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted August 8, 2006 Thank you all for your support. I will take your sage advice and continue posting "such things" as K.G. put it ... ;-) Speaking of "this", I have some interesting info about the story behind the Zeiss Ikon ZF lenses and how it relates to Leica. I will post it soon. I will have a look at the LFI issue about the book - thank you for the info!. And if I do find an English version of the book, I will be sure to let you all know. Cheers, John F.
