Yesterday I visited Swaddywell Pit Nature Reserve near Peterborough ...

… hoping to find a Water Scorpion - but no luck - so waited patiently for a Pond Skater to approach the bank within focusing distance of the SL fitted with Canon FD 200/4 Macro lens … mounted on the very useful Berlebach mini wooden tripod fitted with a Linhof ball head.

This Pond Skater was very occupied sucking the juices out of its prey.

The Canon FD 200mm Macro lens is useful for insects because of its relatively long lens to subject distance compared to 100mm lenses. Usually it's mounted on a tripod via its tripod collar but yesterday, to get the lens nearer to the water, the camera was mounted on the tripod. The lens is 36 years young and needs a service to remedy 'focus slackness' - which slows down manual focusing. Tomorrow it's being shipped to Newton Ellis in Liverpool for its overdue and deserved full stripdown service.
