I have recently been acquiring R lenses for use on my Leica SL and have been highly impressed by their construction, feel and optical performance. Now I am thinking of getting a 35mm lens, and I would like opinions on the Summicron 35 f2 (vII). Is this a good all-around lens that would be suitable for street, landscapes, portraits etc, or is it more of a specialist? Are there any other R lenses that I might consider or even M lenses?

Thanks,

Rob

The Summicron-M 1:2/35mm ASPH. is a better lens, but also much more expensive...

The latest Summicron-R 1:2/35mm is great lens however and the great thing about it compared to M lenses is that it focusses much closer!

Also take a look at the Elmarit-R 1:2.8/28mm V2 which is amazing!

I have one, and use it on my (film) SL. It's heavy though, quite heavy.

I did have an SL (601) for a short time, and used both the 35/2 and the 50/2 (both R) on it, real nice to use.

As Jip says, it focuses quite close.
