I ordered the 60mm IR filter for my nocti but it doesnt fit. the lens was made in canada serial 2854171 (i think 1977) Leica tells me i need an E48 which they do not currently manufacture. It was suggested I go to B & W. I this correct? Has anyone here had this experience and a solution? thanks

You need an E58 not a 48. Leica does not supply one. I found a Heliopan Digital which works fine. E58 seems to be a come size for Camcorders with CCD . I have the same Noctilux. The started with a 58mm filter then went to a 60mm as it was a standard size.

If you are looking for a coded Noctilux with its filter. My dealer in France has just received one.

If you want to contact Nicolas, he is an official Leica dealer as you can check on Leica's site. I've bought several lenses from him with no problem (he shiped the lenses internationaly to me)

If you are in Europe, can I recommend Michael Huppert as being super-efficient with huge stocks of various filters. I ordered a 52mm B+W 486 on Tuesday - arrived here in France today. Willkommen bei Foto Huppert He is listing them at EUR 79 for the 58mm.

As well Leica does not supply IR Filter for the 50mm Asph 1.4 LHSA (which is 43mm). Do you know where to get one?

There should be no problems with using another brand on a 50mm lens. I will personally likely get a B+W slim filter, which comes with its own lens cap.

Right, the difference in cyan drift isn't worth thinking about.

Cheers,

Does it mean that on a 50mm, one could use IR filter with an uncoded lense?

Also, what is the difference between a infrared filter and a dark red infrared filter (B+W offers the 87C and a dark red 89B).

Yes, coding is really optional with a 50 - even with an IR-cut filter. The filters you'd want to use are either the Leica UV-IR cut filter, the B+W 486 filter or the Heliopan Digital filter.

Samir,

Leica does do a 43mm filter, in silver only. However all the current batch have the threads cut wrongly, so if you do want a Leica one, I would wait a bit. Alternatively get a B+W - see my previous post for source.
