The main metering problems that I have with digital Ms are with fast wide angle lenses that have a lot of vignetting. The vignette seems to combine with the meter pattern to give a very sharp cut-off, which makes it difficult to judge the effect of bright light sources in the outer frame areas (small changes in framing giving a huge and difficult to predict metering error - usually towards underexposure).

For some reason the M7 seems to handle this better. Maybe this is something very specific to the lens/body combinations that I use, or maybe the M7 metering was tuned to make better use of film’s better highlight roll-off.
