What I don’t get, and what the most interesting discussion is, is what he hell are Nikon and Canon doing?

The fact that Nikon and Canon continue to hold on to DSLR’s and release behemoths like the D5 meanwhile forfeit the mirrorless market entirely for basically a decade now is bizarre. If you ask me, neither of them deserve to be in business in another 10 years.

I would not write off Canon and Nikon at all. I think within next 12 months they will both have mirrorless cameras out that will be at least competitive, if not better than what Sony has out right now.

Before I purchased my Q, I was actually seriously considering selling all my Canon gear and moving to A7R3, but decided to go for Leica Q instead. I always wanted a high end Leica and decided this was finally the time to go for it (I have had d-lux 109 for couple of years which is also nice for what it is). But back to Sony - don't be surprised to see many people swithing back to Canon and Nikon as soon as they release their high end mirrorles replies to Sony (GAS will kick in for sure and people will remember those beautiful white L lenses). Because of this I figured I will just wait and get the new Canon body at some point when they have mirrorless all figured out, because my Canon L lenses are as good as it gets already (it seems that while Sony has improved, it is still not better in lenses deparment then either Canon or Nikon).

Also, let's not forget about Hasselblad and Fuji - both will probably come out with incredible medium format follow ups to their current offerings within next year or so.

Hmm. do you really think that EVFs provide pre-shot feedback?

I do, and have dozens of shots that might never have occurred or been pulled off otherwise.  Here's an example.  Without an EVF, this shot would have been pure luck. With it, I was aware of the possibility to capture a sun star through a very narrow gap in the trees. Even with the EVF, it took several tries, lots of feet shuffling and repositioning to get the star to mirror the window of the studio, something I never could have achieved via the OVF.
