THE bag solution

So there I was reading all kinds of bag solution threads here and at DPR, htinking how do I carry my M8 and 4 lenses and then I went to the dungeon of extinct camerea gear and came back with an Adorama Slinger. Problem solved and room for the charger and one more lens.

I've had it for years, just forgot, cost 40 bucks used or something back in my bag phase.

Amazingly light after a backpack with 5D, filters and 3-4 other lenses.

I also love my M-Classics Bag. I read on this forum that they had a new smaller bag but

can find no mention of it on the site. No reply to an E-Mail sent to the vendor either.

Cheers,Dan

Dan,

I have the smaller bag. The measurements are approximately 10x14x4.5. The main compartment is divided into 2 sections with a document pocket across the back of main compartment. The bag has 2 exterior pockets; outer flap secures with velcro and a strap with snap device. It holds plenty; mine has 2 M's with lenses attached and 2-3 additional lenses, extra batteries, data cards, etc.

I also couldn't find the bag on web site, but Seth Levine was very good about communicating details of bag and answering my questions. Perhaps he's on vacation for the 4th of July holiday. His e-mail is pepe3@bellatlantic.net.

I feel compelled to continue with the M-Classics Bag viral marketing. Hands down the best bag I've owned that can actually hold something and not be like an over-stuffed sofa inside. :D

I bought the M-classic and relly like it but have a problem to use it.

I want to carry one body and 4-5 lenses, being able to grab them quick and don’t want to fish for my gear. The description shows the so called "speed pocket" which I marked with the red double circle, works fine though is a bit deep.

M-classic.pdf

Two lenses are shown to be stored in the front outer pockets (red circles). The rest of the interior is not strictly divided so every lens you put there will scratch to whatever else you have in the bag.

Am I missing something? I’m very interested in learning how you use the interior. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Holger

The front pockets are pretty deep - I use my airline travel bags (the type you get in first/business international travel) with loop tops to hold small items and put these in the pocket first so that the lens sits on top and can be easily reached. As an alternative I'll put a rolled up lens cloth in the bottom.

In the front centre pocket I prefer to hold the loose items in an Eagle Creek travel holder.

I put Hood Hats on each of my other lenses and this keeps them padded and apart in the interior pocket. I don't typically leave the lens covers on - I just put the hood hat over the lens shade and I'm 2 seconds away from ready and don't have to worry about the cap falling off. You can always leave the cap on underneath the hood hat if you prefer.

I also have a Leica polarizer and Frankenfinder cases in the interior pocket at the bottom which are padded and raise the lenses higher inside. I only typically carry four lenses at any one time so there's plenty of space. I keep a CV 90 & 75/2 Summicron in the front pockets, Tri-Elmar, Zeiss 50/2 inside with 28/2 Summicron on the M8.

I have an M-Classics bag, and several of the Leitz-designed bags from which the M-Classics was plagiarised. Lovely as they are however I do not feel comfortable carrying costly kit in them because whilst they keep items inside from abrading one another, they offer almost no protection against an accidental drop. I have thought of making a bottom insert from dense foam, and then using a Domke insert, but at that point might as well just use a properly padded bag from the start.

I use a billingham stoaway which is pretty small. It fits the M8 with a 35 cron + 2 wallets, extra batteries + 2 other relatively compact lenses (industar 50 3.5, jupiter-12 35 2.8).

That's pretty much the smallest you can get, and without the wallets it could contain a 3rd lense. I didn't feel compelled by the classic M because of it's size.

I have the M8, 35mm ASPH and 75 Lux and use the Billingham Pola I belive it is called, quite compact, carries extra battery, filters, cleaning cloth. Q. I would like to carry the same equipment but in a larger bag and which I can attach a tripod. Any suggestions on small Billingham bag which can accomodate the tripod straps?

I have an M-Classics, which is great, but I needed a bit more room and wanted space for a notebook, pens, etc. I also wanted something that would be good for banging around in my car, which meant a more thoroughly padded bottom. I wound up buying a Think Tank Urban Disguise 40. It not as classy as a Classic -- it's more like a Better Domke. And it's very discreet. My car has slightly tinted back windows, and if I put the Think Tank on the floor behind the passenger seat, it's absolutely invisible to somebody looking through a window -- it's as though you're looking at the floor. With the top open, in that position, I can reach back from the driver's seat and have the camera out in a couple of seconds; and when the camera's in the bag, it's adequately padded against road jitter and impact. The various Think Tank Urban Disguise bags are all quite close in size (the 30 to the 40, the 40 to the 50, and so on up the line) and the biggest ones are pretty large and unwieldy. You have to choose carefully.

Courierware Bags

Virtually indestructible meesenger bags with waterproof interior lining and 1000 denier Cordura nylon outer. Don't get the camera bag the removable padding and dividers are to heavy. The super deluxe courier bag is the same bag minus the dividers and padding. Get some Domke inserts and your in business.
