Advertisement Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Hi David Monkhouse, Take a look here the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
macos Posted July 5, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2007 David, this picture is virtually beaming me into the scene. I like the greens and the atmosphere of the garden. Nice shot! BR Marcus
robert_parker Posted July 5, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 5, 2007 Superb blend of textures - not an easy composition to see in the field but the result is beautifully exicuted.
andybarton Posted July 5, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2007 Wow. How many shades of green can you get in one frame? Stunning.
Canfred Posted July 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2007 Yes David I agree with all opinions here , well defined plants all in the right place and a true natural green for all. A garden I would love to visit. Cheers Manfred
samwells Posted July 10, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 10, 2007 David: Marvellously lush shot (and just how I'd like our garden to be!). The odd small touches of magenta centre left add a nice 'ping', too. Thanks for sharing. cheers: Sam
ejd Posted July 10, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lost gardens? I don't know about that. When I went there it was heaving with people. Far too many people seem to have found it again. Nice picture, by the way.
Artichoke Posted July 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 10, 2007 with lovely greens indeed you caught this at a fine time, so it looks a primeval scene I would print this one up big & hang it in a place of pride did you use an ir/cut filter on this? David Monkhouse Posted July 11, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted July 11, 2007 Many thanks for your kind comments. In answer to the question, yes, the shot was taken using the IR/UV filter as supplied by Leica. In fact, after much experimentation, I have decided that for the type of shot I habitually take nothing is gained by removing it. I also like the degree of protection of the front element that the filter gives. With the M6 I always used a UV filter purely for protection. Having worried about green, it used to be blue in my Perutz days, I feel the filter gives an overall better green but that's certainly a matter of opinion. I also make no apology for this being a straight JPG fine shot. Yes, I always shoot JPG fine plus RAW which gets me out of bother when the auto white balance hiccups (1 in circa 200 but that's because I am a "shady green person" which seems to be the scenario that tricks the system). However, just every so often, the RAW produces a better picture. But, once again, many thanks for your comments. And don't forget the RHS garden at Rosemoor when in Devon. So, upwards and onwards…
