Dear friends,

I primarily shoot Monochrom 246 for most of my work. Have a d810 for random colour work which is not really hitting as I want it to.

Thinking about getting an M8 again as I miss mine dearly. However I’m seriously considering a Mamiya 7 system to join my Mono. Anyone here use a 7 or 7ii and have some thoughts? Reliability and durability? Cheers!

I had one (7ii) for a while as I thought it would be ideal for me - liking rangefinders and MF, but sold it in the end as I never really gelled with it.  For MF work I much prefer my Rolleiflexes (3F TLR  and SL66) with waist-level viewing and knob focussing method, but then, of course they are not 'action' type of cameras like the 7ii.

As to build quality I think they are well made, but do not have the same sturdy feel of Leica or Rollei.

I'd be more worried about serviceability, as in, it's probably either not serviceable now, or may be, but probably only for a very limited amount of time. One of those short-term systems that today is both limited in terms of available units for sale and, even more so, availability of service options/parts.

Apart from the rangefinder coupling there is not a lot to go wrong!  The meter works like the original Leicaflex (i.e. is external and is not needed for the actual picture taking) and all the lenses have electric Copal shutters built in to them, which should be servicable by most professional camera repair works.

It is built to the same high standard as the RB and other Mamiya cameras, so I wouldn't have too many woried about that side of things.   I just didn't like using it!  The brightlines cover just three lenses (I think) and for the others one uses push-on finders. I might have been happier with the Mamiya 6 though, as like the Rolleis, it has a square format.
