bpftc Posted February 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently acquired a 1999 50mm Summicron M39 screw mount lens. I didn’t really want the lens but It came as a package deal with the M10 I bought off a collector. I was wondering if there was any reason to sell it and pick up the newer model 50mm Summicron Lens? I know that the newer lenses are lighter but if I won’t gain anything optically by making the switch then I won’t hassle with trying to sell it. This is my first M camera and lens, (first time I had even held one to be honest.) so my knowledge is pretty limited at this point. Any advice would be great. james.liam Posted February 3, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2018 It’s a collectible. Has some premium value to someone over the standard M mount. Not sure how much.

Congratulations, your Summicron 2.0-50mm ltm Ed. 1999 is a much sought-after collector's item. Have a look at past auctions and then decide whether you want to keep it or use the capital for other M-lenses. Of course, your M10 does not need special M39 lenses. Collectors, however, for maximum prices attach importance to an as unused condition. This could perhaps reduce the fun of taking pictures with this lens because of too much caution. a.noctilux Posted February 3, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) Like this one: https://legendary.camera/leica-summicron-lens-m39-f250mm-1999-192 I use one with all my M and LTM for a while. Very smooth (but short throw focus) Summicron compared to others that I use. A bit more weight du to brass body. The difference with other Summicron is 1m minimum distance in place of 70cm. Leica have kept the short throw though that is pity. Edited February 3, 2018 by a.noctilux
Exodies Posted February 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 3, 2018 Strange that a collector would bundle a collector’s lens with a stock camera. Perhaps he is a back of a lorry collector.

a.noctilux Posted February 3, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 3, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't know if it's a good idea to trade it for another "same" more common lens for the sake of gaining a couple hundred dollars/euros. If it's me, I'll use it for a while with M10 (nice combo what I have done) and the lens is very tough and pleasure to use if the 1m and short throw are not problem. Maybe, but I don’t think so. He also had several older M film cameras for sale that I believe this lens was intended for. He was selling off the entire collection.
