Moving from Fuji x100 to Leica (there is simply no comparison in IQ or UI). Almost bought a Sony, but just can't make myself like its aesthetics and overwhelmed by its intensive computerization. 70 years old with glasses (very mild prescription). Very little RF experience and not even much digital experience, bitterly giving up on film photography ~10 years ago. I enjoy everything: street, macro, people, travel, architecture, etc. and I don't mind a camera being weak in an area, so long as I can love its mechanics. Not currently responsible to spend more than ~5k.

For my primary camera, then, wrestling with:

1. The Q. Just love what I saw at the Leica store, and am completely fine with 28 focal.

2. The CL:  greater flexibility and I think the mechanics are cool, probably initially with a 35mm Summicron for a 50 equivalent, in case I migrate eventually to a full sensor M.

3. Used M9 or 240 with either the 35 or 50 Summicron. intending eventually to trade up to a (used?) 10.

  • I lust for the Q, but have usual anxiety of a great lens stuck to eventually antiquated, unsupported (after firmware 3.0) technology.
  • the CL--so new--a big question mark, since I'm not convinced of its wow IQ (how much better than the Fuji x100?)
  • With the M9 or 240, I rarely buy anything used and, while the 2nd hand market seems trustworthy (Miami, KEH, etc), I sort of feel I'm inheriting someone else's problems.

Reading this site, it's clear that a lot of you have far more dedication to photography, are long-time Leica users and with lots of equipment to draw on, and/or have greater resources. While advice will be conditioned by these different situations, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

thanks in advance

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. So far I absolutely, 100% do not regret my decision to go with the Q. I just wanted an everyday camera without the fuss of lugging around multiple lenses. Q produces excellent Macro and even Landscape shots. Plus its Full Frame. It's more versatile than you think!
