I'm not sure, whether the concept exists elsewhere, over here books with very small-structured pictures, showing everyday situations, are popular for children. Over here, these pictures are called Wimmelbild, my dictionary fails me for a translation. Looking at this example, these pictures are apparently used in Switzerland as well.
