I recently bought a 75mm f2.5 Voigtlander, as an alternative to buying a 73mm Hektor that I have been looking at with a well known dealer.

If you're interested, the Voigtlander 75 f/1.8 Heliar Classic is a virtual steal of the 73mm Hektor design - same 3-group/6-element "Hektor" formula, and even has a slightly wider view than Leica "75s".

Does have modern multi-coating (and M-mount only), thus higher contrast than 85-year-old Hektors, and quite flare-resistant. Extremely fuzzy corners until f/8 or so (field curvature), but thus very smooth background blurs. As DfW and yuddy's examples show.

Here's a sample from my copy:

I have the Voigtlander 2.5 as my only 75 lens, but I have the 35, 50, & 90 Summarit 2.5s. I think the Voigtlander images are easily comparable - at least for the sample I have. Of course it is LTM and needs an adapter.

I'm VERY happy with this lens.  Found a like-new sample on Ebay for about $300US.  Is my 1st 75, didn't realize how useful it can be... is now my go-to for portraits - was using 90's but the 75 creates a more intimate experience with the subject

This thread may have outlived its usefulness since the Colonel has made his choice, but I'd like to give a mention to the MS Optics Sonnetar 73mm f/1.5. Its main virtues are its incredible compactness and weight (5.5 cm long, 197 g) but I find it to be no slouch in optical performance. It has some Sonnar characteristics with a pleasant wide open rendering and very sharp across the frame from about f4.
