rnl Posted January 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a wonder lens! It just arrived. I've noticed that the lens hood 12465 seems not to lock in place. Has anyone else noticed this?

Exodies Posted January 10, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2018 Rectangular hood that screws on? Mine kind of clicks at the end of the thread.
rnl Posted January 10, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted January 10, 2018 Rectangular hood that screws on? Mine kind of clicks at the end of the thread. mine too...but it's not firmly set on the click stop
epand56 Posted January 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2018 Mine is quite firm when the ring is locked at the end of the thread. It happens some times that the ring unlocks because I keep the camera from the lens (say to change the battery), but I must say it is quite firm as well. MT0227 Posted January 10, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 10, 2018 Mine does not "Lock", but it takes reasonable effort to tighten it fully. Never had an issue with it moving out of position.
albertknappmd Posted January 11, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2018 I have a tight fit after the click. Make sure you are turning and clicking.. Albert
Abram Posted January 11, 2018 Share #7 Posted January 11, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine doesn't seem to "click" into place but stays mostly snug, though I have noticed on more than a few occasions that it has moved out of alignment. I've stopped using the hood for a bit as I prefer the size of the lens without it.
rnl Posted January 14, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted January 14, 2018 Tried another hood. Same issue. Affixed 12mm of thin clear packing tape to underside of hood where it meets lens. Works perfectly
wattsy Posted January 14, 2018 Share #9 Posted January 14, 2018 The hood isn’t supposed to lock but the thread fitting has a small rubber ring (gasket?) that ensures that the hood fits into place firmly and should be tight enough that the hood doesn’t start to come off unless you choose to unscrew it. It sounds like your lens is missing this rubber ring.
BjarniM Posted January 16, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 16, 2018 The hood on my 35 Lux ASPH doesn't "click" into place, and it has loosened several times. A bit annoying for a lens that costed me 5.000 Dollars.
Gregm61 Posted January 16, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 16, 2018 The one I bought new from Tamarkin just a couple of weeks ago, the hood is nice & firm after it is screwed into place. That last quarter turn or so you start to feel some resistance as it closes in on the end, There's no "lock" at the end, but it's definitely a nice, tight fit. The only times it has come loose is when I have unscrewed it. I could definitely understand it starting to come loose if one were to grip the hood when trying to un-mount the lens, but there's plenty of real estate near the mount without having to touch the hood to mount and un-mount the lens. albertknappmd Posted January 16, 2018 Share #12 Posted January 16, 2018 I went back to my lens and hood. There is a tight fit but NO click.. Sorry about that error! Albert
epand56 Posted January 16, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 16, 2018 When I tighten the ring of my hood, it switch in lock position with a light click and then the hood is perfectly firm.
rnl Posted January 16, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted January 16, 2018 I contacted Leica and they are mailing a gasket to me. Thanks all for your kind and informative responses.
rnl Posted January 19, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted January 19, 2018 The "sealing ring" just arrived from Leica in New Jersey. I used the thread protection ring to push the gasket down and then slowly screwed on the hood...works great.
Gregm61 Posted January 20, 2018 Share #16 Posted January 20, 2018 One issue here, some are talking about a “click” which has to be the previous 35 Summilux hood. The current Summilux does not have a hood that clicks in place.
