Mine is quite firm when the ring is locked at the end of the thread. It happens some times that the ring unlocks because I keep the camera from the lens (say to change the battery), but I must say it is quite firm as well.

Mine doesn't seem to "click" into place but stays mostly snug, though I have noticed on more than a few occasions that it has moved out of alignment. I've stopped using the hood for a bit as I prefer the size of the lens without it.

The hood isn’t supposed to lock but the thread fitting has a small rubber ring (gasket?) that ensures that the hood fits into place firmly and should be tight enough that the hood doesn’t start to come off unless you choose to unscrew it. It sounds like your lens is missing this rubber ring.

The one I bought new from Tamarkin just a couple of weeks ago, the hood is nice & firm after it is screwed into place. That last quarter turn or so you start to feel some resistance as it closes in on the end, There's no "lock" at the end, but it's definitely a nice, tight fit. The only times it has come loose is when I have unscrewed it.

I could definitely understand it starting to come loose if one were to grip the hood when trying to un-mount the lens, but there's plenty of real estate near the mount without having to touch the hood to mount and un-mount the lens.

One issue here, some are talking about a “click” which has to be the previous 35 Summilux hood. The current Summilux does not have a hood that clicks in place.

Yes, discovered this after gasket installed.  thanks.
