Welcome to the Forum.

 

 

 Camerworks have been mentioned here several times, and they currently have a lens of mine for service. For info., they are not currently meeting their target turnround times.

Aperture UK offer a turn round of approx 1 week. That's what they quoted over the phone, I think it was 2 months ago when I enquired. Newton Ellis are quoting 4 to 6 weeks because they are mad busy. Not a bad sign when a repair shop has a backlog, it indicates they are living off reputation.

They just quoted me a month for a lens - I take it that this is unlikely then (that said it has been Christmas with its inevitable delay)?

 

They recieved my rigid Summicron on 25th October. They may be catching up, as they did apologies on thier Facebook page for longer times due, they said, to volume of work.. Worth looking at thier Facebook page as it has some interesting pics of striped down lenses and cameras.

My be its a good idea to start saving an emergency fund just in case, then the camera can return to Germany. Peace of mind perhaps? But it can still be eight to ten weeks away. So much for the visions of modernity!

 

I have had stuff return from 'Germany' with such obvious flaws you would not believe. Fixed again, but no apology or explanation. So not all sweetness and light I am afraid. It is said they send stuff they can't fix to Malcolm Taylor, who is a good option if not in a hurry (but not for digital cameras, where I would always use Leica's Customer Care).
