Leica could always think out of the box and let us use the leaf shutters in the S lenses with the adaptor.

Gordon

I like that idea Gordon. However there are many options for Leica. One option is to adapt Nikon's flash connection protocol as the pins are in the right position to utilize the mutiple 3rd party strobe/flash availability,...especially being able to use the Profoto A1.

I'm not sure about the size of the event you said you intend to cover? I've learn to befriend the practice of fill in flash for outdoor when the subject happens to be people. I use off camera flash mostly and have found the cheapest method of a flash extention cord (Nikon pin layout) to extend my SF58 off camera attached to a self stick. My SF58 is set to TTL-HSS with 1 & half stops lower on the flash while my SL is set on M mode & spot metering (for me to point the AF & exposure locked on the face). Below is an example of a family portrait/snapshot of my wife and daughter. You would not even realise that a flash was fired from my left hand stretched (plus selfi stick extention of 0.7M) holding onto my flash fired. I set the exposure on my SL against the ambient light. Knowing the show background will mean I get my subjects underexposed if I did not fill in with a flash.

Hi there,

This flash extention cord (Nikon pin layout) you mentioned may be my solution. May I ask if it will work with Nikon SB-800?

Or do you know if there is any remote sync control which can triggers the flash (SB-800) to fire from SL?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Arvin,

I have no experience in using any Nikon Camera and flash. Therefore I am unable to answer your question regarding SB800 Speedlite.

However due to similar hotshoe physical pin layout (different functional protocol between Nikon & Leica flash TTL communication), I successfully controlled my Leica SF58 flash from SL via Nikon pin layout (3rd party supplier Phottix) cord to operate OCF on TTL-HSS mode w. 1.5 stop -ve compensation. To help me extend the position of OCF, a selfy stick is used to extend the OCF position further by 0.7m after the full length of my left arm.

Seems to me the Nikon-pin-type flashes work with all my Leica cameras: Q, SL, CL as well as my Hasselblad H5D-50C so I couldn’t be happier. For example I use Profoto B2 and A1, on camera and off camera, on all those cameras.

A stupid question, can I use the profits A1 to remote trigger a Nikon SB-800 and vice versa?

You can use any third party wireless trigger or cord to manually control fSB800 Speedlite or flash of any make.

Alternatively when I do not require HSS OCF, I do use wireless radio trigger to power manual OCF as in the example of my pics below. My choice is to power a manual Lumopro LP160 flash (w. or w/o modifier) via Pocket Wizard Plus IIIs set to >channel 17 & HSR mode for me to sync successfully at shutter speed 1/320sec or lower shutter speed.
