banyakduit Posted December 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey im a new leica q116 user. I am going to travel to Finland and the weather is in Extreme Condition like -20. Is it going to be okay for my camera? I understood the battery will drop but will it break some of the component because of the coldness? Any recomendation(should i bring it or not)? Thanks

Peter L Posted December 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) I frequently have my camera with me walking my dogs for an hour or more in down to -25 C, I carry the camera inside my ski jacket, parka, when you get back in the house , let the camera sit for about 30 minutes for the condensation to disappear before doing anything with it. Peter L Posted December 20, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2017 I not aware that it is recommended , I take lots of pictures in the cold, but don't have the camera out of my jacket for long , just a couple of shots snap snap and back inside the jacket against my body. jaapv Posted December 20, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2017 What will happen is mainly that the LCD will grow darker (presumably the EVF as well) and battery life will drop sharply, but the camera should keep working.

Peter L Posted December 20, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I couldn't comment on that , we have 5 months of cold weather, January, February, the coldest , sometimes down to -30 C for a week or two several times, never had a problem of any kindwith my camera, using it the way I mentioned above. We had a dump of snow last night, spend hours cleaning my car and paths temperature approx. -10 C Welcome, dear visitor! prk60091 Posted December 20, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) my experience with the Q is with taking it on long walks and taking images with it to about -10C last winter.... what i did was before i came back into the warm house... i turned the camera off--- i then waited 1 hour before doing anything with the camera....i do not know if 30 minutes is sufficient and frankly i do not know if 1 hour is sufficient at those temperatures of -20 or -30. i have not noticed any issues with the camera or images using that protocol at -10 i am not brave enough to take it out at -20 or -30 YMMV Edited December 20, 2017 by prk60091
Peter L Posted December 20, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 20, 2017 Well, I don't think that the camera gets very cold at all the way I am using it , just 10 or 20 second to take some shots , then it goes back inside my jacket at perhaps a little less than body temperature.

freediverx Posted January 7, 2018 Share #12 Posted January 7, 2018 I'm in Miami, and folks were complaining about the freezing cold when overnight temps plummeted to 49ºF last week.
