You ask which one is 1.4. Probably none of the 2. The number 1.4 is most probably just an approach to mention an aperture that is frequently used. Imagine if the real aperture would be 1.37934575. What would you write onto the lens? It is like the ISOs but probably not wrong by 1 LV as the ISO. I would not worry about this at all.  You just see that you ca open your aperture even a bit more without the ring jumping back to the 1.4 mark.

I did a little test with shutter speed set at 1/250 for two pictures. I then put a cropped one taken with aperture 1.4 over the full open one and as you can see in this picture there is a little difference between 1.4 square and the other bigger square. It is very little, so perhaps nothing to worry about. Question is which one is in fact 1.4? :-) [attachment=424485:test 1.4.jpg

Interesting. I’ve done that same test and did not get that result. With mine, the brightness was identical (within the limits of repeatability).
