Exactly the same view with the Thambar stopped down probably between f/4.5 and f/6.3 for comparison.

I got my Thambar classic today. First walk with the lens. Very challenging and very fun!. This was a crashed spiderweb hanging from a tree. Fantastic bokeh.

You mean, you got an old Thambar with screw mount ? Would really like to know about the differences between the old and the latest copy.

Hehe, at a second view i don't like the leaf picture. Too sharp background bokeh. But it's fun to play with them. Only second day with Thambar. Strange you can't erase your own post. Or am I missing something. (Still like the horse 😀)

I’ve no idea if there are any differences but when I bought mine I tested both the then brand new M version and a screw mount. I felt that the screw mount rendered slightly softer, and for me, better. I also preferred the lovely look and feel of the screw mount so for me the decision was very easy.

I recently grabbed a second hand reissue, planning to shoot a few rolls to see the differences.

TTArtizan offering a cheap Thambar, or is this crazy?

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that the "bubble bokeh" is not what makes the Thambar interesting and is in fact a rather annoying side effect which sometimes shows it’s ugly face. There is nothing else remotely similar to the Thambar in the rendering I can see in example images.

There was another brand (German IIRC) famous for this sort of gimmick. They had some crowd funded rereleases a few years ago but it turned out to be a scam.

I’ve said it before, more than once. If you want Thambar photos, get a Thambar.
