I wouldn't be surprised if a Q monochrome version of the adapter is coming out.  Hopefully they won't add too much of a premium on the price for a black and white only version.

I will keep on watching.  Maybe Leica will restart the line and get a few more to their stores.   Is it officially discontinued?

As far as I know it is officially discontinued. I do not expect a monochrome version. There’s nothing unique about that camera relative to this adapter.

Hi ,

I am new to the forum and to digiscoping. Have the Leica APO 82 and a Q2 with the 116 adapter. Incidentally I bought this adapter within the last few weeks in NZ.

Would love some advice. I attempted to digiscope via the Leica Q2, 116 adapter and the APO Televid-82 with 25 - 50 eyepiece. The result was pretty dismal.

Reading here though I take it wide open aperture on the Q2 is best. Any other advice for the setup would be appreciated.  I take it you remove the plastic two notch eye distancing mechanism.

Look forward to any advice

.

Good morning,

I don’t understand what you mean by the eye distancing mechanism. Maybe that’s a Televid feature. I have a Swarovski spotting scope.

Set the eyepiece magnification on the scope to minimum until you have more experience with digiscoping

My process is pretty simple. Mount the camera and adapter to the scope.

Select manual focus and I turn all the way to minimum focus.

Select the f/1.7 aperture.

Focus the scope while looking at the camera LCD or EVF.

Adjust the ISO and keep the shutter speed up 1/500 or shorter for a correct exposure.

Select 10 sec timer.

Push the shutter.

Please post your photos. Look forward to seeing your successes

Dan

@Shawn30

Hi Shawn,

I shot this Kingfisher a couple of weekends ago using my CL with a borrowed Televid 82. I used the Leica 35mm digiscoping lens. With focus peaking on live view, I found it relatively easy to manually focus. Were you also using this lens or did you use something else?

I'm going to be trying with a Q2 and adapter this weekend. I'm interested in seeing the difference between the two, especially how the autofocus works with the Q's digiscoping mode.

Very nice. Sharp!!

I use the Q and now Q2 with the Digiscoping adapter. I mainly manually focus both the scope and the Q. It works well with stationary subjects.

I look forward to your next post.

I’m using the same setup. I emailed back and forth with one of the guys in Leica sporting optics that digiscopes. He had me bump up the ISO and I got some really nice test shots. Now that things are greening up and we have warmer weather it’s time to break it out again. That kingfisher is super cool btw.

There’s a beautiful moon right now. If you see clear skies, shoot it. I might try tonight if the sky is clear. Just for fun.

It’s only 4pm here, but I shot this with the Televid, not a great photo but man that spotting scope is fun

Here's an Olive-Backed Sunbird shot with the CL and Televid 82. For this one, I shot Speed priority at 1/800S with auto ISO capped at 3,200. The actual ISO was 2,500. (FYI. The photos are compressed here and look a bit softer than they actually are. The originals are sharp.).

I also tried shooting with the Q2 (in digital-scoping mode) and the Q adapter but not finding the results as please as with the CL and the dedicated 35mm digiscoping lens. Still need to figure out the best settings for the Q. Also, the focus peaking worked well on the CL but I couldn't seem to get it working with the scope on the Q.

Fantastic. I really enjoy your images. On my Q /Q2 I generally set the lens to manual focus at minimum distance then focus the scope. I might try minor adjustments on the lens afterwards, but as I remember it’s mostly focused using the scope.

@Leica GuyThanks. Do you use the digiscoping mode? And does the focus peaking work for you? With the Leica CL and using the digiscoping lens, focus peaking works when I focus using the scope dials. It makes it a lot easier to get sharp photos.

I definitely do not use the digiscoping mode. It’s been a while, but I remember trying it and not liking it. I also cannot remember focus peaking working well for me.

I magnify 6X and use that to nail the focus. I’ve not found focus peaking to be very helpful with a spotting scope.

I’ll take another opportunity soon and reply further to this thread about focus peaking. Sorry, I have not used my spotting scope / Q2 combo in about a year. I still like it, but I also bought a Canon R5 and use it with a 500 f/4 lens.

@pidewegw I got my hands on one a couple of months ago. Your best bet is to go to your nearest Leica store and they can do an inventory check on-line for you. I was lucky in that there was one left in inventory Singapore that had previously been used as an in-store demo model so wasn't in the sales inventory but they let me have it and it was essentially as good as new. If you don't live near a Leica store, then I'd go straight to the German HQ as there may also be some pieces in inventory there that never got shipped to stores. If not let them know that a demo model is also fine in case there's any of those left somewhere else. Digiscoping is bigger in US or Europe so you might get lucky.

To quickclickmick rsp. all,

I just sent  an email to USA: "Hello, Adapter 42337 (Leica Q - digiscoping) is out of stock in Wetzlar and will not be available/produced any longer.
I wonder whether there is still one available for me? I am happy and prepared to pay shipment costs to Europe.
Thank you for replying to me.
Kind Regards
Peter ter Beek - Sieverdinkweg 20 - 7107AT. Winterswijk Kotten - Netherlands "

Last week I had a phone call from the dutch import-company. No success.

Same with a Leica-employee that I bought a used Leica from a few years ago. In Germany there is no stock or a demo for sale any more,

Thanks for your help and support

With kind regards
