I suspect most of us get attacks of "G.A.S." from time to time. Like others here I have been reading up on the new CL and thinking what a cool camera that would be to own. And half a thought away from that I wondered whether the Q was really all the camera you might ever need.

My Google Maps is programed to avoid me encountering places where I might do some damage to my credit cards but yesterday the system failed me and I wondered into my local downtown Leica dealer. I had been shooting a few images as the light was terrific yesterday in Chicago so had my "109" with me. I explained my thinking to the sales guy who showed me the Q (no CL yet) and we discussed types of images and image sizes.

At the end of this he offered his opinion in response to my question about upgrading to a Q or CL. The simple answer was "No" but qualified by a zen-like response that once I recognized my shortcomings and had improved them, mastered LR a little better, then what would remain would be recognizable shortcomings in the camera. "That's when you should upgrade." He also checked off a list of attributes for the 109 that made me feel I still had a camera worth owning and one into which I still had some "stretch" room.

Sometimes the opposite of what you expect can be very refreshing, inspiring and empowering. Time to get out there and chase some more light!

For me, this is true in the field of hobby astronomy. Whenever I habe a GAS attack, I call my astronomy dealer, and he tells me that I don't need that type of equipment (because I do have what I need) or that it is of poor quality. Sometimes, however, I disregard his advice...

Best regards, Gerd
