Paulus Posted December 18, 2017 Share #41 Posted December 18, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) This one has me scratching my head, I mean with the countless special edition 24X cameras this can't really be expected to appreciate in value. I'm sure Leica doesn't expect anyone to go out on the street to soot with this in broad daylight... I guess that leaves the occasional dinner party, but then wouldn't a red summilux be a better option? This is beyond me, maybe a good therapist can help me figure this out. Most special editions are never used to use as a day to day camera, so in this light it fits right in...
Advertisement Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Hi Paulus, Take a look here Most colourful Leica ever?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
terrycym Posted December 18, 2017 Share #42 Posted December 18, 2017 Thorsen offers red lens hoods here... http://www.overgaard.dk/Thorsten-von-Overgaard-Gallery-Store-Hardware-for-Photography-and-Leica-Lenses-and-Cameras.html The colour is similar to the new Leica camera. BTW He's one of the guest speakers at next year's Leica Society meeting. Maybe some of you may want share your views on red Leicas with him?
Kwesi Posted December 18, 2017 Share #43 Posted December 18, 2017 It saddens me that my tool of choice is marching headlong towards becoming the "gentleman's camera". Just my humble opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
terrycym Posted December 18, 2017 Share #44 Posted December 18, 2017 I got the silver M240. I didn't sense any coercion from Leica UK to buy any special edition but the option was there if I wanted to
pgk Posted December 18, 2017 Share #45 Posted December 18, 2017 When I first started taking underwater photographs (early '80s) a lot of underwater photo-gear made of aluminium was anodised red - because it was a durable and low cost finish (blue was used too - the next edition perhaps). So from my perspective red anodisation suggests a cheap finish .....
jaapv Posted December 20, 2017 Share #46 Posted December 20, 2017 It saddens me that my tool of choice is marching headlong towards becoming the "gentleman's camera". Just my humble opinion, nothing more, nothing less. It is a very traditional thing - the first special editions (gold-plated, lizard and snake skin) date from the late 1920-ies. Leica has been marching headlong for ninety years...

jaapv Posted December 20, 2017 Share #48 Posted December 20, 2017 Not really, that was 1992 IIRC, a time that every PJ was using Nikon... Leica was already well down the slope, heading for the dark days of the turn of the century. BTW, the Forty Years Republic of China gold M6 from 1989 was nearly double the price of the Sultan's one...
Kwesi Posted December 20, 2017 Share #49 Posted December 20, 2017 Thanks for the info on the Republic of China gold M6, Jaap, I wonder why it was double the price
jaapv Posted December 20, 2017 Share #50 Posted December 20, 2017 Far more cameras per member of the population built for Brunei than for China.
stevenhacker Posted December 21, 2017 Share #51 Posted December 21, 2017 This is absurd! Quite a travesty that assaults the tradition of quiet excellence. I couldn't afford the black tape needed to cover up this monstrosity. Shame on Wetzlar.
