M8 in the Pyrenees

I just returned form two restful weeks in the French Pyrenees. Took my 2 M8s along with a 24mm f/2.8, 35mm f/1.4 ASPH, 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and the 90mm f/2 APO. I had no major problems and used all lenses just about equally. I brought along two Epson P5000 external hard drives and each was filled with about 30 GB of photos.

Both cameras performed flawlessly.... What a pelasure not to have to lug around heavy glass....

I do have several comments:

1. The M8 AWB needs reworking. The first shot is frequently off.

2. I had a slight problem with file numbering and maybe I am at fault: I had the file on continuous and after filling up a Sandisk ultra 2GB card (Epson cannot handle the 4GB cards yet...) I would reformat in the camera. Sometimes, my files would restart at L100 0001 and sometimes they would continue with the correct numbers. I never touched the menu to change from continuous and wonder whether this has happended to to others. Usually, I would not care but the UNIQUE number is critical for lightroom and I suspect other file sorting software programs, so I had to manually change a fair number of file numbers soa s to avoid duplication and inherent confusion.

ANY ideas are greatly appreciated as I do not want to go through with this again....

I find digital very liberating but my problem now is taking too many of the same shots... This results in a sorting headache... I will discipline myself.

The Epsons do not read RAW so shot number one is a JPEG that has the date or a view of a major structure/landmark etc... The two drives were flawlwss and as I cannot review them, I found that one battery per Espon was enoough for two weeks. I will bring an additional battery per drive next time and leave the recharger at home.

3. THE VF LINE DILEMMA... Yes it was a problem particualrly for WA lenses. The M8 lines are woefully inaccurate for landscapes. I resorted to chimping the fiest shot but by the end of the trip, I could visualize the shot in my head... Experience is key.

Overall, a home run....

;):D;)

I've had that same problem. Without my doing anything, the file numbering started over at 0001. This happened after about 400 shots. So far it seems to be behaving itself.

So, how 'bout a link to some of your shots from the Pyrenees?

Yes I ve the same problem but reformating the card each time seemed to work. But if you forget that is the pain and you cannot resequence. What a pain. Surely the camera has the sequence since year dot which we could use

The Epsons do not read RAW

I might be misunderstanding, but I have an older Epson 2000 and it does record DNG but can not show it. If I want to see the shot, I shoot DNG plus JPEG. When downloaded to a computer, each picture has a DNG and JPEG version.

That is the only way to go with an Epson 2000; shoot DNG plus JPG.

Suits me fine though: I just weed out the JPG's when home.

The epsons cannot read DNG and you just have to shoot the occasional JPEG to remind yourself of what you have shot... The DNGs appear perfectly on the PC when downloaded from the Epson.

As to the numbering problem, I always reformat and am still confused as to what is going on. This is a little problem but it can be very annoying as Lightroom is very demanding in regards to unique sequences...:D

I will be working on my files over the next few weeks and will post a few... Preliominary evaluation.... they are superb...
