M9reno Posted November 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) What kind/size cap fits a Leica IB Compur? Was it the same for dial and ring Compurs? Was there ever a Leica-issue cap? Thanks in advance!
Advertisement Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Hi M9reno, Take a look here Compur Cap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted November 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2017 Lager (vol. 1, p.35f.) writes: „Special accessories were produced for the rim-set Compur-Leica: filters, close-up lenses, lens hood and lens cap. The unusual front cap illustrated (p.36) does not carry the Leica name; a slightly larger unmarked cap was also available for the Model A.“ The photo of a capped lens for No.32705 on p.36 shows an item which has no similarity to any lens cap I know. My catalogue of 1930 doesn‘t mention either the Compur, or any lens caps. According to Laney the screw-in filters FICAT, FICOM, FICUR and FIOKO were made for the Compur, though no diameters are given anywhere which might indicate the cap‘s size.
alan mcfall Posted November 9, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2017 I also have never seen a cap, other than the Lager photo. There are two different compur models. The dial set has an outer diameter of 21.8mm and the later rim set is 25.5mm. Both are straight and would appear to work with an external slip on cap, filter, close up lens. On the dial set the speed dial is very close to the outer diameter and would cause interferrence. This photo shows the cameras with what I thought were the early close-up slip-on lenses. The lenses are not threaded but are slip on with a cut out section to clear the speed dial. The compur close up lenses Lager shows are screw in and I thought they would be for the later rim set camera. The dial set has a very deep internal front thread that measures 17.5mm and the later rim set has an internal thread of 19.4mm. It would be great to see some more caps, filters and close up lenses to fully understand the compur. Welcome, dear visitor! willeica Posted November 9, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) I found these in the 1931 catalogue. They may be of interest. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I'm afraid that early catalogues generally do not list any lens caps. Sorry that these are sideways. I note that this website has been doing this recently. Perhaps someone could advise about this William Edited November 9, 2017 by willeica
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! M9reno Posted November 10, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted November 10, 2017 William, Alan, and UliWer: thank you all. One idea that occurred to me is that, since the Compur shutter assembly was not made by Leitz, but by Friedrich Deckel AG, the mysterious absence of the lens cap from Leitz listings might be explained because the caps, too, were produced by FD AG, and indeed would be common to many other cameras sharing the same Compur shutter... What do you think?
UliWer Posted November 10, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2017 (edited) ... Friedrich Deckel AG, ... Sorry for the uncalled-for answer - though I had to laugh: "Deckel" means lid or cap (for a lens) in German... So obviously they had their own ones...
