Hello Quixotic,

 

Welcome to the Forum.

 

Incident metering measures the LIGHT falling on the subject as opposed to measuring some, or all of the light being reflected from some or all of the SUBJECT. The second example being reflected meter measurement.

 

Both methods are usually pretty much equally doable in a large number of situations. In around the same amount of time.

 

Incident metering TENDS to require less before or after metering decision making by the measurer to come up with equally acceptable exposures.
