I'm on a wait list for the M10 which will be a gift to be given next summer or fall. I have a few questions so that I do the right things between when I get the camera and gift it:

 

It comes with a Lithium Battery, correct?

Does it come fully or partially charged?

How long can it sit without being used for the first time?

How often should it be charged even when not used?

Are there any other electronics that need attention while the camera sits unused?

Any other advice on how best to store it until gifted?

Does it come fully or partially charged? Partially, on the low end
How long can it sit without being used for the first time? Half year as-is should not be a problem
How often should it be charged even when not used? See above

Any other advice on how best to store it until gifted? Cool dry place. mid-40% humidity

It will come boxed and the battery will be in a separate packet – not inserted into the camera. From that point of view there will be no battery leakage. However, if it really is going to be sitting around for a long time before it is given, it might be a good idea at least to open up the box and charge the battery up using the in closed charger. Then the battery will really will last the distance – especially if it's not putting the camera.

 

Lithium batteries which are permitted to go into deep discharge – even through non-use – may suffer.

 

You need to keep it in a cool dry place – especially dry.
