Photoskeptic Posted June 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Built in the 1850's. These are on the grounds of the McLeod plantation on James Island across the Ashley River from Charleston, SC. I shot this in DNG with a yellow filter, then converted to bw by desaturating in ACR 4.1. M8, 50 cron, ISO 320.

stuny Posted June 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2007 John - Very nice composition, tonal range and contrast. You did better with this scene than I did.
Photoskeptic Posted June 30, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 30, 2007 Thank you, Stuart. The secret is using a yellow filter to extend the DR. Ordinarily, a regular DNG shot would have blown out the sky highlights and you would not even see the clouds. The result looks pretty bizarre in color and it's not until it is converted does it look like intended. While I usually convert with Channel Mixer I had heard the newest ACR had some changes which would benefit bw so I gave it a shot (so to speak )
