but I don't agree about the narrow-ish focus plane here

I would have preferred seeing the front floral frond in sharper focus

a smaller aperture with more front placed focus would have helped

I am inclined to agree with Arthur on the point of focus. But a lovely natural specimen.

Yes, both Arthur and David are quite right of course. If only...........

 

..............I had my R9 and 100mm macro with tripod with me that day instead of a hand held 100 asa only camera with no tripod and the wind dancing the plant about a bit!!

 

The wide aperture did allow me a chance of getting something hand held and it also allowed a more subdued background instead of showing rather fussy vegetation. (The summicron is great for that)

 

But yes, I agree the focal depth is really too shallow.
