If the aluminum on our silver Leica T/T/TL2 gets scratched, can we buff it out and hand polish it like the employee in the Leica ad?

Oh wow, those are some deeper scars there. On the bright side, it shows how durable the camera really is. I wonder if there is such a thing as filler for aluminum...hopefully somebody on this site knows. In the video, it looks like they are polishing it with very very very fine sand paper, which is why the camera is so soft to the touch despite being metal.

I normally don't mind scratches on objects. I think they add character and a visual history to the object. Those imperfections are what make the old beat up leicas beautiful. But the leica t is so intentionally perfectionist with its design aesthetic, half of me doesn’t want to see it damaged.

I don't know of the history of the one I have, for all I know it's had some internal repairs performed.  So not sure how robust it is. Honestly the marks don't bother me,  they might when I go to sell it tho which I will probably do when I see what this new release is going to be.  That might hurt!

No problem, but you would need the sort of abrading and polishing gear used in the jewellery trade and finish with a fine texturing wheel to match the original surface.

I've done this before with similarly finished gear and you can match things very closely.

That is a good point, I think anodizing coats aluminum in a clear oxidated layer, adding strength to the metal. The polishing does occur before anodization in Apple’s aluminum, so I imagine that the T goes through the same routine. Since anodized layer is clear, maybe polishing will still work in terms of appearance.
