greene881 Posted August 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just purchased an M9 from a UK dealer. It was advertised as having a replacement sensor. Before purchasing I specifically asked if the replacement sensor is the newer type or another original one. The seller confirmed it is the newer version. I received the camera today and it included paperwork from Wetzlar regarding the sensor replacement in March 2015. From what I understand this makes the replacement a first generation sensor. Given that for me further free sensor replacement is no longer an option I am inclined to return the camera but first would like to canvass members knowledge on the reliability of sensors that have been replaced with a further original type sensor. pop Posted August 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2017 As you can see here, the new sensor was not quite available on June 29, 2015: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/247062-ccd-sensor-new-leica-information-about-the-state-of-development/?do=findComment&comment=2844137
R6M6 Posted August 21, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2017 I bought my M9 in 2012, had a first replacement with the original sensor in 2015 and a second replacement with the new sensor in July 2017.
Rus Posted August 21, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 21, 2017 Go into the camera's service mode and check hardware ID. If the CCD ID number is 15, CCD ID: 15 CCD Board ID: 2 Control Brd ID: 2 M16C ID: 0 then there is a good chance that it is the new type sensor, as per this link: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/272556-determining-new-sensor-m9/?p=3276370 Having that CCD ID is certainly still no definitive proof that your sensor is the new type one, but it seems a pretty good indication. Rus Posted August 21, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2017 Thanks. It does seem that it is the original type then. Of course the only way to be sure is to send an email to Leica CS and give them the SN number of your M9. They should be able to confirm it one way or the other. greene881 Posted August 24, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted August 24, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I decided to play it safe and return the M9 to the shop. For an additional £125 I have found one, from a reputable UK dealer, with the newer sensor.
