yeahyoung Posted August 6, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) For people living in Netherlands or anywhere nearby, if anyone try to sell you a Leia M6 TTL w(#2734444) with boxes and manual, call the police immediately and tell them it's stolen goods. Tell them to contact Belgium police to confirm. Brief version of the story: Two guy claiming from Netherlands came to my home pretending to buy the camera, made a fake bank transfer, and walked away with it. Two days latter they called me and verified my bank info and said that they will try to make the transfer again. A day latter they called me again and told me a fishy story including a pawn shop and police and tried to get me to go to Amsterdam to meet them. Scary part is, not only they came to my own home and conned me, they tried to have me go to Amsterdam to meet them. I could not imagine what awaits me there. It is likely I will be roughed up and taken to an ATM for cash. Lessons learned: 1) When buy and sell cameras online, never meet strangers in your own home. Always in a public place. 2) Always ask for cash payment or transaction that is immediately verifiable (e.g., Paypal). Make the rules clear before meeting the person. 3) There is no loss from walking away from a deal. When something feels wrong, stop and walk away, which is much easier to do in a public place. I hope sharing my experience can help and prevent people from getting conned.

earleygallery Posted August 7, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2017 2) Always ask for cash payment or transaction that is immediately verifiable (e.g., Paypal). Make the rules clear before meeting the person. This works if the buyer is genuine. If they've used a fraudulent or stolen credit card then the amount will indeed be immediately verifiable in your paypal account but will disappear again in a few days time when the bank confirms that the card wasn't legitimate. Feel really sorry on behalves of yours In the beginnig of the 90-ties I was ripped off, by lurking, a M4, a 35mm Summicron versIV with an UVa filter and a MR Lightmeter. So I can imaging how you must feel... Now a days I take every precautions possible that it should never happen again. But nothing can take away my passion to take pictures with my Leicas- Anyway! Whish you´ll get back your M6- Soon! Kind Regards, In-focus
Jobea Posted August 21, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2017 I am a buyer who transact using internet banking all the time. Transact on the spot and provide the buyer with the transaction ID. Cold hard cash is fine but online banking payment make purchasing less painful Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
