Ko.Fe. Posted July 25, 2017 Share #41 Posted July 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the milliseconds before this debate is moved to a different part of the forum, has anyone seen results from the latest Huawei/Leica colab? [found a review link over here but no longer avaiable https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/262980-huawei-p9-review/] Latest like year or so ago? If so, yes, I checked it back then. On big screen just after first examples became available. It was big, but very short living gear story. Nothing special, nothing new, same as everywhere sensor killed Leica lenses to the level of any modern phone photos. Too small sensors are holding down mobile phones IQ for now. Fine for 4x6, 5x7 color prints, but nowhere near even with similarly priced 2008 M8 with 9$ 1971 Industar 28 2.8 lens kit I send to new owner few weeks ago. Ko.Fe. Posted July 25, 2017 Share #42 Posted July 25, 2017 I admire DAH, mostly for his enthusiasm and his championing of relatively unknown photographers, but must marvel at Apple's marketing coup: that this conversation (as well as other similar conversations) is about the iPhone (as opposed to other smart phones or small sensor compact cameras in general) vs larger, more serious cameras. Is there anything special about the iPhone in this respect? iPhone isn't any better on camera part comparing to some less popular mobile phones. We have our relatives visiting us on summer couple of years ago. One of them used some older phone, like Sony-Erickson or Nokia and it was noticeably better on IQ comparing to similar age iPhone I have (4 or 5C, I don't remember). Where iPhone beats the rest is simplicity of use as entire device. Also, some techies like me are trusting iPhones to serve as exposure metering device and it is working accurate with free app. While some other big names manufacturers phones are simply not working as exposure meters. zlatkob Posted July 25, 2017 Share #43 Posted July 25, 2017 Perhaps it's a bit cynical to also point out that, while it's correct that the photographer matters more than the camera, getting the person to spend $ to attend the workshop is likely just as important as giving good advice. It's a bit cynical and not quite accurate. DAH is telling the person "Best invest is to put yourself on a good project." That doesn't involve spending any $ to attend the workshop. Place yourself in the position of the receiver of this message, when they received it, and the circumstances surrounding it. It cannot be proven in any case, but it's something to be aware of. Guest Posted July 26, 2017 Share #45 Posted July 26, 2017 mhicks - Context indeed is king, as you say. If you looked at the link provided in the OP, you'd see that the conversation continued as follows, from which it's clear that the receiver appreciated and understood DAH's comments, which were clear in the first instance. vincentbgirard@davidalanharvey thank you to take a quick look of my work on IG do you have a advise for me? i always wondered if i should only focus on black and white or color ... davidalanharvey@vincentbgirard you seem to gravitate to b&w.. I always tell photographers to go with what seems most natural for them . No point ever to try to be somebody else. vincentbgirard@davidalanharvey Thank you so much for the advice David, i will stick on my m4 with hp5 film and some 6x6 medium format i feel very good about it, i think i was little bit lost. If you do a work shop in Washington dc i will be trilled to attend. At least in the sense of how the receiver took it. As for the intention of the seller, well, that could be up for debate but it really isn't important. It looks like they both ended up with what they wanted!
