Advertisement Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Hi deep_blue, Take a look here Power SL via USB-port?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ramarren Posted June 7, 2017 Share #2  Posted June 7, 2017 Not that I'm aware of. Since you cannot charge the battery through the USB port, I would be extremely surprised if the camera could take power from that port as an input.  I seem to recall that the M9 had an accessory that looked like a dummy battery which plugged into the charger to permit mains power input for extended use, but I don't see anything like this listed for the SL as yet. I sent a query to Leica technical support to see what they say.

What doesn't he know?

What doesn't he know?   Well, I never owned one but I recall it being in the accessory list. The battery slug "looked like" a dummy battery and plugged into the charger on its side. I fully expect that it had some electronics for power regulation, etc, in it... If my memory is not defective, that is. It's been a while since I looked at any of the M9 stuff; I might be remembering something for the Digilux 3/Panasonic L1 cameras.  I would expect the same concept for an external power supply for the SL, however: something that looks/works like a battery connected through to mains power. steppenw0lf Posted June 7, 2017 Share #5  Posted June 7, 2017 No the USB port cannot be used for charging. And there is no external power supply (yet). For me too a big problem of the SL - I have my older cameras still for these cases  (CaNikon)
deep_blue Posted June 8, 2017 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 8, 2017 Thanks to everyone. Probably I should think about a DIY solution... shouldn't be too complicated if I use a housing of a battery...? hmmmm

Probably I should think about a DIY solution... shouldn't be too complicated if I use a housing of a battery...? hmmmm  I would talk to Leica first, if I were you... Unless of course frying your SL is no big deal I would also be extremely interested in an external power solution, as this is pretty much the only thing that keeps SL from being a full-fledged professional cine camera. deep_blue Posted June 11, 2017 Author Share #8 Â Posted June 11, 2017 Leica answered: They don't offer any solution [yet]. I asked them if it's possible to get an empty housing of a battery somewhere... let's see, what the answer will be
