Doug A Posted June 29, 2017 Share #21 Posted June 29, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, I installed Epson iPrint on my wife's older iPad but it will not show me the print options other than the defaults unless I link it to a compatible printer, and there's the problem. I have a WF30 and an R2880 and neither is compatible. I was hoping someone here was printing photos edited in Affinity Photo from an iPad and could let me know the print options without my having to buy a new printer. When I was still using Lightroom I compared Red River Paper's ICC profiles and Epson's ABW for printing my b&w scans. I preferred the ABW prints but I could live with the ICC profiles. I haven't tried the same experiment with Affinity Photo on the iMac but I would expect similar results. I'm afraid that with an iPad I would not have access to either ICC profiles or ABW. (An unexpected result of my experiments was that on a whim I tried printing a few test photos on the WF30 using its black ink only mode and the results were amazingly good. My wife said they looked the most like my old Kodabromide prints from the 60's of all the test prints.) --Doug
Advertisement Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hi Doug A, Take a look here Affinity Software w/ iPad Pro. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MainlyMonochrome Posted July 7, 2017 Author Share #22 Posted July 7, 2017 So I just received my new iPad Pro. First thing I did was install the iOS 11 Beta, and it seems relatively stable. If this isn’t going to be your primary machine, consider it. I also received the WD wireless pro HD, and hope to get to that as well. Anyway, I’ll be watching many of the Affinity tutorials and begin learning this new software along with using Photos as a DAM. How’s everyone else’s experiences going? wlaidlaw Posted July 7, 2017 Share #23 Posted July 7, 2017 The problem is that the app makers are always a long way behind the OS coders. Installing iOS 11 may well break/disable a number of apps you are currently using. My wife is a director of a company, which makes apps for the medical professions, as their medical consultant. It is a nightmare for them keeping up with OS updates. They are always running flat out to catch up. It is also an expensive business updating complicated apps, with loads of sub-routines. She sometimes gets me to download their latest beta app and try to break it. Wilson
MainlyMonochrome Posted July 7, 2017 Author Share #24 Posted July 7, 2017 ^ of course it is Beta, and as I pointed out “if this isn’t your PRIMARY machine...” FWIW, there have been some quirks and only one app which doesn’t work...everything else has been fully functional. YMMV.
ramarren Posted August 20, 2017 Share #25 Posted August 20, 2017 I've only very slowly been going through the Affinity Pro tutorials ... I've been distracted by other endeavors the past few weeks (new Ducati motorcycle... ). But what I've learned so far is very positive, for my purposes anyway. I don't normally print from the iPad; I've got that workflow well tuned from Lightroom on macOS. However, I did a few test prints from iPad Pro to the Epson P600 and they look good on whatever settings the iPad sends it. I'm not being ultra critical as yet. Back down to the garage now ...
