dkCambridgeshire Posted October 20, 2017 Share #21 Posted October 20, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just added a finger loop to my X Vario's grip which has significantly improved its ergonomics. The XV is sitting in front of me right now complete with its new 'ear' Last week, in conjunction with an Elpro VIa I used it for a special project i.e. photographing the many available menu options on another camera* for a well known reviewer. The XV coped admirably and quickly. As I look at the camera I think of all the flack it endured from so many critics and wonder what its hard working designers thought of their often unwarranted criticisms ... especially the critics' lens comments. Those habitual denigrators have no real idea what they missed and what a pleasure the XV can be in use … especially as regards the superb IQ available throughout its zoom and aperture range. dunk *an existing camera ... nothing to get too excited about Edited October 20, 2017 by dkCambridgeshire

Guest sbmclean Posted November 15, 2017 Share #22 Posted November 15, 2017 HI All; I wonder if someone can clear up something for me. I just ordered the XV, I know it isn't the newest but it has always "called" to me. I am currently a Sony user and I do enjoy the live view feature that shows you in the viewfinder, or screen, how your exposure settings will affect your image. I was wondering if the XV does this as well, or is the image in the EVF2 or screen static, not reflecting your exposure changes? Does that make sense? Not bothered if it does not have this feature , as an old Nikon film shooter who used to go by the exposure "arrow" but it is a nice feature I enjoyed on the Sony systems. Yes, the Live View and EVF are always the same as the Sony "Setting Effect: On". However, there is no way to get the equivalent of Setting Effect: Off. I find it somewhat awkward to use with off-camera flash for this reason. Toshi

TMorita Posted December 12, 2017 Share #27 Posted December 12, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) One thing: If you've just received your LXV, be sure to check the firmware version. It should be 1.1 The 1.1 update improves a few things, such as the Auto ISO settings. Toshi
Dean_G Posted December 12, 2017 Share #28 Posted December 12, 2017 Hi, I'm also a new x vario user, and also am coming to the XV from a D109, plus an X1. As much as I loved the overall capabilities of the D109, goig between its images and the superb output of my X1, I had a subtle discontent with the D109 IQ, as great as it is(and it really is). The X1 IQ consistently drew wows from not only myself but spouse and friends. So I decided to get the X Vario to replace both. Sold the D109 and have the X1 currently up for sale. Very pleased with the XV, but I will say that the X1 still manages to eek out something special that I don't get as much of fron the XV. Not sharpness per se but something to do with the gradients of the light. Hard to say..it's just got that Leica thing going on in spades. But the XV is awesome in so many ways. The only camera I need.
