karagoal Posted April 7, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I wanted to have some feedback on a potential issue I have with my Leica Q. Sometimes when I focus and reframe, the camera refocuses at the moment I take the picture and I loose my original focus. I'm just pushing the button from half way to final position. I'm in AFS and 1 Point focus. The thing which bothers me is that it does not happen all the time. I tested this with a friend's Q and it never happened on the numerous tries I did. I think it started 1 week ago. Does anyone experienced the same issue ? Thank you !

karagoal Posted April 10, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted April 10, 2017 While searching the forum for similar issues I stumbled upon this thread http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/264600-focus-lock-problem-with-flash/ The main difference here is that I have no external flash but a thumbs up (http://www.matchtechnical.com/Pages/ThumbsUpEPSQ.aspx) which is installed on the hot shoe. So I'm wondering if there is a contact which could interfere on the focusing mechanism. I will try putting a piece of paper between the camera and the thumbs up
Bart van Hofwegen Posted April 11, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 11, 2017 Sounds the same, yes. If you try without the thumbs up for a while and never see the issue, I would say that's it.
karagoal Posted April 11, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 11, 2017 I'll try a few days without the thumbs up. Thanks
Sam M Posted April 14, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 14, 2017 Huh, interesting. I've had the same issue and have contemplated starting a thread. I also have a thumbs up. I mainly use manual focus now but will watch with interest to see if you find a solution.
karagoal Posted April 14, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted April 14, 2017 Hello Sam, I tried a few days without the thumbs up and I still have the problem from time to time. It's quite annoying... I will likely return my unit for reparation.
Bart van Hofwegen Posted April 14, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Annoying indeed. As I mentioned, in my case the behavior was clearly related to using the Nikon flash. Without it, no issue, with it, always. Consistently. So this must be something else that manifests itself as the same behavior. Please keep us informed on the proceedings, and good luck!
karagoal Posted April 14, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted April 14, 2017 Indeed Bart, my hypothesis was wrong. I will of course keep you guys informed.

powderhound2 Posted January 25, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 25, 2018 Hello, I wanted to have some feedback on a potential issue I have with my Leica Q. Thank you ! I just purchased a used Q a few days ago, and have enjoyed using it so far. However, I have experienced the same issue, and am wondering if anyone has gained any new insight? It happens in AF-S, with single point mode. It doesn't do it all the time, like others, I will half press to focus, recompose the scene, then as i press the shutter the camera refocuses on whatever is then in the focus area. One thing that I'm wondering is if it actually has to do with the shutter button itself. I feel like I've been able to get it to focus and hold focus by pressing to one side of the focus button, but if i press directly in the middle of the button, where my index finder usually hits, that is when it refocuses. I'm wondering if the button is loosing contact, even though the focus area box continues to glow green, and the camera thinks the button is no longer half pressed. I have a few days to send it back, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any additional insight. Thanks
